Starting Base Salary: $32,760, with the potential for a higher starting rate based on qualifications and experience.
Position Summary:
The Accounts Receivable Clerk is responsible for processing and recording receivables due to Macon County, as well as auditing incoming payments to Macon County. This role ensures accurate financial recordkeeping, timely billing, and compliance with county policies and applicable regulations. The clerk works closely with internal departments and external stakeholders to maintain efficient revenue collection operations. This position works closely with the department staff to ensure the timely completion of tasks, maintain accurate records, and support the department’s activities.
Hours of Work:
The normal workday consists of seven (7) consecutive hours (discounting an uninterrupted 60-minute meal period) beginning at 8:30 a.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m. Two rest periods of 15 minutes each are provided during the workday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The normal workweek consists of five (5) consecutive seven (7)-hour days, Monday through Friday inclusive.

Education & Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree in accounting or related field preferred)
- 1–3 years of experience in accounts receivable, bookkeeping, or governmental accounting
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and practices
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Ability to handle confidential financial information
- Strong communication and customer service skills

Position Summary
The Accounts Receivable Clerk is responsible for processing and recording receivables due to Macon County, as well as auditing incoming payments to Macon County. This role ensures accurate financial recordkeeping, timely billing, and compliance with county policies and applicable regulations. Key Responsibilities:
- Proof and post incoming payments (checks and electronic payments) accurately and in a timely manner
- Prepare and issue invoices for county services, fees, and other receivables
- Reconcile accounts receivable ledger to ensure all payments are properly recorded
- Monitor outstanding accounts and follow up on delinquent payments
- Prepare and process annual 1099 forms (including 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC), ensuring accurate classification of payments
- Maintain and verify vendor records, including collection and review of Form W-9 information
- Perform electronic filing (e-file) of 1099 forms with the IRS in compliance with federal deadlines and requirements
- Distribute recipient copies of 1099 forms in a timely manner
- Ensure compliance with IRS regulations and county policies regarding reportable payments and withholding requirements
- Reconcile 1099 totals to the general ledger and assist with year-end closing processes
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation in compliance with county and state regulations
- Respond to inquiries from the public and internal departments regarding billing and payments
- Support audits by providing requested documentation and reports
- Perform other duties as assigned
