POSITION SUMMARY: The Classroom Float provides classroom coverage across all infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms, primarily filling in for staff absences, vacations, meetings, breaks, and other staffing needs. This team member is cross-trained in working with children of all ages within WeeFolks, ensuring safe, consistent, and high-quality care wherever coverage is needed, including outdoor and swimming activities.
- Open to Aides, Assistant Teachers, and Teachers.
- Must have flexibility to work 8-hour shifts, M-F, between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Serve as a cross-trained team member prepared to serve in any classroom where needed: infant, toddler, & preschool
- Always maintain flexibility to work in different classrooms and various children
- Actively supervise children and participate with children in activities
- Participate in set up, prep, and cleaning up of activities and classroom space as appropriate
- Always maintain continuous awareness of the number and location of all children in your care
- Maintain CACFP rules and regulations for all meals and snacks
- Maintain all rules and regulations for MN Rule 3
- Attend to personal hygiene needs of each child, including regular diapering when applicable
- Calmly and patiently guide children’s behaviors in accordance with WeeFolks policy and practices
- Attend and participate in trainings and staff meetings, including abuse risk management trainings
- Follow strict confidentiality of all information regarding children, families, and staff
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
- Communicate with parents and other staff with professionalism and kindness
- Other duties deemed necessary by the YMCA Education Director and/or Site Director
REQUIREMENTS:
- Meet MN DCYF Rule 3 qualifications for hired position
- Successful completion of a background check
- Pediatric CPR, First-Aid, AED Certifications within 90 days of hire
- Completion of child passenger restraint training within 90 days of hire (or as soon as possible based on training availability)
- A strong commitment to working with children in a developmental setting and a sincere desire to have a meaningful effect on their lives through quality childcare
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Must be to work on time and be dependable in accordance with department attendance policy
- Meet training requirements annually
WORK CONDITIONS:
- Perform all physical aspects of the position, including frequently moving around, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs. at a time
- Work environment may be loud at times
- Duties will include working with children outdoors as well as in the swimming pool
- May provide children with assistance in dealing with issues such as personal hygiene, medical needs, toileting, diapering, lifting, and feeding
- May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids in the childcare environment

Pay: $16.50 - $19.50 per hour
