JOB DESCRIPTION
Join Destination GN’s exceptional Grounds Maintenance department as a full-time Assistant Superintendent, participating in the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, and cart paths; ensuring proper use of equipment and supervising maintenance and repair of equipment.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
- Assists in planning and supervising maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; schedules work; and supervises employees and use of equipment.
- Instructs equipment operators on operation and care of mowing and other equipment and performs mowing as needed; supervises and performs pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps and irrigation and drainage systems.
- Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, and personnel discipline. May also modify daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
- Fills in for superintendents during absence.
- Assist with filling out all agronomic and weekly assignment checklists.
- Assist in irrigation repairs.
- Performs routine safety inspections on all spraying equipment.
- Maintains chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state, and federal regulations and is responsible for the safety and direction of chemical handlers and/or helpers.
- Performs fertilizer and chemical applications to all areas of golf course and multi-family units.
- Perform snow removal for Paloma property and all contracts.
- Follow instructions given by Director of Grounds or Golf Course Superintendents.
- Hands-on in all aspects of golf course maintenance.
- Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls
- Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations
- Assist in all departments when needed
- Ability to work weekends and holidays
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- 2- or 4-year degree or certificate in Turf Grass Management or related field.
- 2 years' golf course experience.
- Valid driver's license.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to move heavy objects of 50 pounds or more
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
SUCCESS FACTORS
- Knowledge of and/or ability to play golf so as to understand how job performance affects course playing conditions.
- Pesticide applicator's license
