Full Job Description

Salary Range: $120,000.00 to $130,000.00/yr DOE

Job Purpose/Summary

The Operations District Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance, safety, compliance, customer satisfaction, and financial results of multiple transportation terminals or operating locations within an assigned district. This position provides strategic leadership to Terminal Managers, Operations Managers, Dispatch, Driver Supervisors, and other operational personnel to ensure efficient transportation services while maintaining the highest standards of safety, regulatory compliance, and customer service.

The Operations District Manager serves as the primary operational leader within the assigned district and is accountable for meeting company goals related to profitability, service, employee engagement, fleet utilization, and regulatory compliance.

Duties and responsibilities

Operational Leadership - Lead multiple transportation terminals and operational teams. - Develop and execute district operational strategies aligned with company objectives. - Monitor daily transportation operations to ensure efficient route execution and customer service. - Standardize operational processes across all assigned locations. - Identify operational improvements that increase efficiency and reduce costs. - Ensure consistent execution of company policies and procedures.

Safety & DOT Compliance - Promote a culture where safety is the highest priority. - Ensure compliance with all applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), Department of Transportation (DOT), OSHA, and state regulations. - Monitor: Hours of Service (HOS), Electronic Logging Device (ELD) compliance, Driver Qualification Files, Drug & Alcohol Program compliance, Vehicle inspections, Accident investigations, Preventable accident reduction initiatives. - Review CSA scores and implement corrective action plans. - Lead post-accident investigations and corrective coaching.

Financial Management - Manage district P&L performance. - Develop and manage operating budgets. - Control labor, overtime, maintenance, fuel, insurance, and operational expenses. - Analyze key financial metrics and implement cost-saving initiatives. - Improve profitability while maintaining service quality.

Customer Service - Build strong relationships with customers. - Resolve escalated customer concerns. - Maintain service level agreements (SLAs). - Identify opportunities for business growth. - Partner with Sales and Business Development to retain and expand accounts.

Fleet Management - Partner with Fleet Maintenance to maximize equipment availability. - Monitor fleet utilization. - Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed. - Reduce equipment downtime. - Oversee trailer and asset utilization.

Driver & Workforce Leadership - Lead and develop Terminal Managers, Operations Managers, Dispatch Supervisors, Driver Managers, and other operational leaders. - Coach leadership teams on performance management. - Ensure proper staffing levels. - Assist with workforce planning and succession planning. - Participate in recruiting strategies to attract quality CDL and non-CDL drivers. - Promote employee engagement and retention.

Regulatory Compliance - FMCSA regulations - DOT regulations - OSHA requirements - Wage & Hour laws - Company safety policies - Workers' Compensation procedures - Drug & Alcohol testing programs - Company employment policies

Continuous Improvement - Identify operational inefficiencies. - Implement Lean process improvements where appropriate. - Utilize operational data to drive decisions. - Develop action plans for underperforming locations. - Share best practices across the district.

Qualifications

Education Bachelor's degree in: Business Administration, Transportation Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, Related field. Equivalent transportation leadership experience may be substituted.

Experience Required: 7+ years of transportation operations experience - 5+ years of leadership experience - Multi-site operational management experience - DOT regulated transportation experience - Budget management experience - Fleet operations experience

Preferred: - Truckload, Dedicated, LTL, Final Mile, or Private Fleet experience - Experience managing 100+ drivers - Multi-state operations - P&L responsibility
