At Abound Rehabilitation Services, we are committed to providing compassionate, person-centered support to individuals navigating substance use recovery and mental health journeys. We believe in the transformative power of lived experience and dedicated peer support to guide individuals toward sustainable, long-term recovery.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and qualified Peer Recovery Coach to join our multidisciplinary team in Michigan. In this role, you will leverage your personal lived experience in recovery, paired with professional training, to empower individuals as they develop recovery plans, navigate community resources, and build self-advocacy skills.

This role operates in full alignment with Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) regulations and Prepaid Inpatient Health Plan (PIHP) standards.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Peer Support: Provide one-on-one and group peer recovery coaching using shared lived experience to build rapport, foster hope, and encourage self-determination.
Recovery Planning: Assist individuals in identifying personal goals, strengths, barriers, and strategies to develop individualized, person-centered recovery plans.
Navigation & Advocacy: Help individuals connect with community resources (e.g., housing, employment, medical care, transportation, and support groups) and serve as an advocate within health and social service systems.
Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client records/progress notes in compliance with MDHHS guidelines, HIPAA, and 42 CFR Part 2 rules.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Actively participate in team meetings, clinical reviews, and care coordination with clinicians, case managers, and medical staff.

Required Qualifications & Certifications1. Core Peer Certifications (Required for Hire)

CPRC: Must hold an active Certified Peer Recovery Coach certification issued through the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP) / MDHHS-approved pathway.
CPRM: Must hold an active Certified Peer Recovery Mentor credential (MCBAP).

2. Clinical/Addiction Credential Requirement

CADC or CAADC: Active Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) certification is required, OR
Development Plan Eligibility: Candidates without an active CADC/CAADC must be eligible to begin an official MCBAP Development Plan within 90 days of hire.
Note: Abound Rehabilitation Services provides the required clinical supervision for your development plan.
New Hire Onboarding Requirement: As part of the onboarding process, candidates on a development track must meet with Krystal Armstrong to evaluate eligibility and map out the formal development plan timeline.

3. General Requirements

Lived Experience: Personal, primary lived experience in recovery from a substance use disorder (minimum of 2 consecutive years of sustained recovery preferred).
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Valid Michigan Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and valid auto insurance.
Successful completion of required background checks in accordance with State of Michigan guidelines.

Skills & Competencies

Deep understanding of recovery-oriented systems of care (ROSC), harm reduction principles, and trauma-informed care.
Strong interpersonal communication, active listening, and boundary-setting skills.
Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and empathy in high-stress situations.
Basic computer literacy for navigating electronic health record (EHR) systems.
