Full Job Description

Summary:

Under limited supervision, provides direct assistance to crime victims within Stark County, City of Dickinson and the surrounding eight counties as needed.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents in this position. Incumbents may not be required to perform all duties in this description, and incumbents may be required to perform position-specific tasks other than those listed in this job description.

· Provides information and notification of court dates to victims.

· Assist victims with Victim Impact Statements and the filing of Crime Victims Compensation.

· Provides and gathers medical amounts for potential restitution and gathers property damages.

· Provides emotional support to victims as needed.

· Provides information regarding court “No Contact” orders.

· Coordinates with the State Department of Corrections, police and County Sheriff’s departments.

· Maintains individual data on all victims.

· Refers victims to local agencies based on individual needs.

· Accompany victims to court proceedings.

· Provides/explains information about the Criminal Justice System.

· Provide reports to the State’s Attorney as needed or requested.

· Provides information about SAVIN (VINE), the National Victim Notification Network.

· Attends all municipal and district court hearings.

· Attend training/conferences to stay up to date.

· Prepares grant applications; prepares various reports; prepares the program budget.

· Orders office supplies and equipment; prepares and prints program brochures.

· Provides work direction to interns and volunteers.

· Utilizes database application for record keeping.

· Performs related work as required.

Education and Experience:

· High school diploma or the equivalent is required. Degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field and one year of program administration experience, including grants writing experience is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Possession of a valid state of North Dakota Driver’s License or equivalent

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

· Knowledge of the principles and practices of criminal law.

· Knowledge of the municipal and district court system.

· Knowledge of the principles and practices of grants.

· Knowledge of the principles and practices of administrative management.

· Ability to read, understand and apply regulations, codes, policies, procedures and other operational guidelines and directives.

· Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County staff, States Attorney’s, victims, law enforcement personnel, court officials, community agencies and the public.

· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

· Ability to operate a personal computer and various software applications.

· Ability to handle stressful situations.

· Ability to multi-task.

Working conditions/Physical and Mental Demands:

· Physical environment consists of a desk job in the standard environment. Will include physical motions of finger dexterity for frequent use of PC keyboard, sitting and standing motions.

· Mental Demands include patience and respect, as well as the ability to provide emotional support.

· Working Conditions consist of balancing office, court hearings, and victim assistance.
