Position Summary
The Industrial Electrical Specialist serves as the plant's technical authority for electrical infrastructure, electrical safety, and regulatory compliance. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and code-compliant operation of plant electrical systems while supporting capital projects, electrical troubleshooting, contractor oversight, and maintenance capability development.
This is a hands-on technical leadership position designed for an experienced industrial electrical professional. The successful candidate will combine extensive field experience with strong technical judgment to protect the integrity of the plant electrical systems and support reliable manufacturing operations.
Primary Responsibilities
Electrical Systems Ownership

Serve as the technical authority for plant electrical distribution systems, including low and medium-voltage systems.

Ensure electrical installations, modifications, and repairs comply with NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Own electrical system documentation including:

Single-line diagrams

Electrical drawings
-
Panel schedules
-
Arc flash documentation and labeling
-
Electrical standards and specifications
-
Review electrical changes to ensure safe, reliable, and maintainable solutions.
Capital Project Support
-
Lead electrical portions of capital projects from design review through startup and commissioning.

Develop electrical scopes of work and technical requirements.

Review contractor designs, proposals, and installations for compliance and quality.
-
Manage electrical contractors during installation activities.
-
Support equipment startup, troubleshooting, and energization.
Hands-On Electrical Expertise

Perform specialized industrial electrical work when required for:

Critical troubleshooting

Equipment commissioning

Small projects where contractor support is impractical

Troubleshoot industrial electrical systems including:

Motor control centers

Motor starters

VFDs

Instrumentation

Electrical distribution equipment

Safely perform electrical work using required PPE and NFPA 70E practices, including arc flash protective equipment.
Maintenance Technical Development

Serve as a technical escalation resource for complex electrical issues beyond maintenance capabilities.

Partner with the Maintenance Manager to improve electrical troubleshooting capability within the maintenance team.

Provide coaching, field support, and technical guidance to maintenance personnel.

Develop electrical troubleshooting standards and technical documentation.
-
Reduce recurring electrical escalations through training, standardization, and permanent corrective actions.
Reliability and Continuous Improvement
-
Participate in root cause investigations involving electrical failures.

Identify opportunities to improve electrical reliability, safety, and lifecycle performance.
-
Recommend improvements that reduce risk, downtime, and operating cost.
-
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability and operational performance.
Authority and Accountability
The Industrial Electrical Specialist has independent technical authority regarding electrical safety, electrical standards, and electrical system integrity.
This role is expected to:

Stop work when electrical conditions create unacceptable risk to personnel safety, regulatory compliance, or equipment integrity.

Challenge electrical designs, installations, or practices that do not meet applicable standards.
-
Approve electrical readiness prior to equipment energization.
-
Provide technically sound recommendations based on safety, reliability, and lifecycle impact.
The Industrial Electrical Specialist works in partnership with the Maintenance Manager, who retains responsibility for maintenance execution, work management, PM completion, labor supervision, and CMMS processes.
On-Call and Escalation Responsibilities
The Industrial Electrical Specialist participates in the Engineering escalation process and supports after-hours response for significant electrical events, power distribution issues, and electrical safety concerns.
The expectation of this role is not to provide routine maintenance coverage, but to restore safe operation, identify root causes, and improve maintenance capability to reduce future escalations.
Qualifications
Required
-
Master Electrician preferred; Senior Journeyman Electrician with significant industrial experience strongly considered.
-
10+ years of industrial electrical experience.
-
Experience with industrial electrical distribution systems.
-
Experience working with medium-voltage electrical systems.
-
Qualified to work under NFPA 70E electrical safety practices.
-
Experience using arc flash PPE, including full arc flash suit and associated protective equipment.
-
Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA electrical safety requirements, and industrial electrical standards.

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and construction drawings.

Experience managing electrical contractors and verifying installation quality.
Preferred
-
Experience in food, dairy, beverage, pharmaceutical, or other regulated manufacturing environments.

Experience supporting industrial capital projects.
-
Experience with electrical reliability practices such as infrared inspection and power quality analysis.

Familiarity with PLC hardware, instrumentation, sensors, and VFDs sufficient to support troubleshooting and contractor coordination.

Work Environment
This position requires regular presence in a manufacturing environment including production areas, electrical rooms, utility spaces, and equipment locations.
The role requires working around wet processing areas, electrical equipment, moving machinery, noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures while following all PPE, GMP, food safety, and electrical safety requirements.
