Description:

Job Summary: Under direction of supervisory staff, performs waived and moderately complex laboratory procedures

Duties & Responsibilities:

Follows all PPE requirements and all safety regulations. Consistently employs Universal Precautions through all phases of specimen handling, processing, testing and disposal.
Goes through the pending logs and finds missing samples
Performs laboratory tasks such as printing extra labels, recording data (temperature charts) specimen storage, retrieval and disposal.
Preparing specimens at workstations for testing. Including building worklists and aliquoting specimens into sample tubes
Creating a batch sheet using Excel
Assist in Laboratory prep, clean up and decontaminates work area
Goes through the pending logs and finds missing samples.
Prioritizes work to give prompt attention to stat and expedite specimens as well as those requiring special handling.
Restocking lab supplies and maintains an appropriate inventory of supplies at all times.
Report low inventory of supplies to the Group Leader of Lab Services.
Remove expired laboratory stock and equipment according to established disposal procedures.
Uses the laboratory computer system as well as operates PCs.
Completes training and competency checklists as appropriate. Assists technologists and technicians with the operation of standard laboratory instruments
Perform routine laboratory assistant duties according to agency standards and protocols
All other assignments as directed by management

Requirements:

Medical Assistant Certification preferred
Understanding of laboratory quality control and assurance
Knowledge of general laboratory safety issues and universal precautions
Proficient computer and data entry skills
Strong interpersonal abilities
Ability to work proficiently and efficiently in a timely manner
Must be well organized and detail oriented
Strong work ethic and commitment to completing assigned task
Must have the ability to establish work priorities and to handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency.
Must be able to retain information once learned.
Must interact with other coworkers, internal and external customers with courtesy and respect.
High School Diploma or higher
3-6 months experience working in a similar role
