Job Summary:
Under general supervision of the CEO the Chief Nursing Officer serves as a member of the senior leadership team. This position works in close collaboration with the COO and members of the Executive Team, within the company and will foster cross-functional and system-wide relationships to promote ongoing management, planning and operations of the nursing departments. The Chief Nursing Officer is responsible for the overall direction, leadership, and operational management, analyzing and evaluating patient care delivery systems, promoting quality and safety, maintaining, and improving productivity while maintaining cost efficiency. Acts as the Quality and Compliance Officer for the facility.
Educational Requirements and Qualifications:
- Possession of Registered Nurse (RN) state license and current registration to practice in state where work is performed or willingness to obtain.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or Higher from an accredited educational institution, Masters preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years of nursing experience, plus a Minimum of five (5) years of progressive executive. leadership, with a background in healthcare operations.
- Experience working in ambulatory or inpatient Behavioral Health/Chemical Dependency preferred.

Essential Job Functions:
1.Ensures there is a focus on the organization’s products and services to meet the highest standards.
2. Maintaining a highly reliable organization with the focus on clinical operations, financial viability, and quality.
3.Creates a culture of accountability and transparency.
4.Represents the nursing department at meetings of the governing body and keeps the Chief
Operating Officer apprised of the work being accomplished by the Nursing Division facility wide.
5.Represents the nursing department on other system wide committees, such as finance, human resources, quality and patient safety.
6.Travel as required to conferences and meetings, which may include overnight stays.
7.Performs hours of work based on need and the amount of time necessary to perform the job
responsibilities including on-call and emergencies.
8.Provides vision and direction for nursing throughout the facility.
9. Establishes and chairs a forum to engage all levels of nursing in joint planning of activities designed to enhance professional nursing practice, set annual strategic goals and initiatives and provide final approval of policies and procedures.
10.Establishes a nursing governance structure to ensure care delivery is consistent. The structure is to be formed for nursing staff, nurse managers, nurse educators to work through challenges, issues and concerns that effect patient care and leadership activities.
11.Fosters staff development to ensure the availability of a well-educated nursing workforce to meet the needs of an increasingly complex patient population.
12. Maintains positive relationships with the organization’s nurse leaders in order to provide overall guidance, insight and advice and mentorship.
13. Develops a structured communication process to ensure appropriate information is exchanged and discussed.
14.Oversees and coordinates clinical staff compliance with professional standards, company policies, procedures and all rules, regulations, laws or other applicable authorities in conjunction with the company’s compliance team.
15.Oversees and coordinate clinical staff interaction with regulatory bodies in connection with surveys, investigations, and other governmental inquiries or interventions relating to the company’s clinical services.
16.Provides strategic nursing management, fosters open communication and collaboration and
provides financial oversight in budgetary formation and compliance.
17. Develops and articulates nursing’s strategic imperatives through resilience and forge ahead despite obstacles.
18.Provides financial oversight and uses trended data to formulate the staffing plan and acquires the necessary resources to ensure consistent application of the healthcare delivery system.
19.As the Quality and Patient Safety Officer, identify operational and clinical outcomes to determine process improvements and develop new methodologies that will positively impact nursing performance, patients’ safety and employee satisfaction which contribute to quality healthcare.
20.Act as the Quality and Patient Safety Officer and work with the informatics/education staff on educational programs to improve quality and patient safety.
21.Work collaboratively with the IT/Informatics staff on the electronic health record set up and
management to minimize risk and improve safety.
22.Participate or attend annual DOH or CMS surveys, as needed and collaborate with state inspectors when required. Reviews plans of correction, provide input, and feedback and assist in informal dispute resolutions in collaboration with the Chief Quality and Patient Safety Officer.
23.Arrives to work on time, regularly, and works as scheduled.
24. Recognizes and follows the dress code of the facility including always wearing name tag.
25.Follows policy and procedure regarding all electronic devices, computers, tablets, etc.
