St. Mary Academy Bay View seeks a part-time Reading Interventionist to support the academic growth and reading confidence of Lower School students in Grades 15. This part-time position will be one (1) day per week (up to 8 hours). Rooted in the Mercy tradition of excellence, compassion, and the empowerment of girls, the Reading Interventionist provides targeted instruction and evidence-based interventions for students who require additional support in reading and writing.The Reading Interventionist uses a variety of techniques and interventions to help these students improve their reading and writing skills.
They work closely with teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to develop and implement effective reading interventions for students. Key Responsibilities: Student Support & InterventionProvide small-group and individualized reading and writing intervention for students who need additional support in foundational reading and writing skills;Use diagnostic assessments and progress-monitoring tools to identify learning gaps and develop targeted intervention plans;Provide targeted instruction in key reading skill areas aligned with the Science of Reading;Differentiate lessons to meet diverse learning needs, learning styles, strengths, and interests; Assist with the creation and implementation of individual service plans and student support plans; andSupport students in building confidence, perseverance, and a positive reading and writing identity.Collaboration with TeachersPartner with classroom teachers to analyze student data and identify instructional next steps;Support teachers in implementing effective evidence-based literacy strategies and interventions within the classroom;Assist in designing lessons that promote rich mathematical thinking and discourse;Provide recommendations for accommodations and enrichment; andParticipate in faculty meetings, professional development, and student support team meetings.Assessment & Data AnalysisAdminister screeners, benchmark assessments, and ongoing formative assessments;Maintain accurate and timely records of student progress and intervention outcomes; Interpret assessment results to evaluate intervention effectiveness and make data-informed instructional decisions; andUse data to adjust instruction and to frequently communicate progress to teachers, administrators, and families.Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading, Literacy, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)Science of Reading certification required Orton-Gillingham certification preferred Experience working as a Reading Interventionist or in a similar roleExperience working with students who have reading difficultiesExperience with evidence-based reading intervention programs and strategiesFamiliarity with a variety of reading assessment toolsKnowledge of current literacy research and intervention practicesSkills & Competencies: Ability to use assessment and progress-monitoring data to inform and tailor instructionExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong collaboration and interpersonal skillsExcellent organizational and time management skillsAbility to work effectively both independently and as part of a teamProficiency in using technology to enhance reading instruction and student learningTo Apply: Visit bayviewacademy.org/about-bayview/employment-opportunities and download the Teaching Application.
