Position Summary
The East Stroudsburg University Foundation, the 501(c) (3) affiliate of East Stroudsburg University, seeks a talented, experienced, and energetic development professional to serve as an Associate Director of Development. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development and Alumni Relations of The East Stroudsburg University Foundation, the Associate Director of Development, will develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to retain and expand the number of donors to the foundation’s annual fund, through active cultivation, appropriate solicitation and stewardship resulting in increased operating income for the Foundation, support for university priorities and growth in alumni participation rates.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of 150 - 200 prospects
- Qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospects and donors with the capability of giving $25,000 or more over a 3 to 5-year period in line with established individual and team fundraising goals
- Solicit gifts through personal visits, follow up telephone calls and coordinated written correspondence
- Collaborate with Foundation departments, University officers, faculty, administrators and Athletics on fundraising strategies and campaigns
- Maintain accurate, timely records and contact reports in the database of records to facilitate repeated gifts and establish lifetime philanthropic partnershipsComplete and submit monthly expense reports, receipts, and invoices in a timely fashion
- Maintain knowledge of current best practices in the field of fundraising and advance understanding through professional development
- Participate in and assist where needed with cultivation events
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of relevant experience (development, sales, marketing, customer relations, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in a higher education or non-profit setting preferred, direct experience with fundraising and volunteer management
- Proven ability to solicit and close philanthropic gifts at the $25,000+ level, or equivalent experience in a related field such as sales
- Working knowledge of charitable giving tax laws
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to successfully interact and collaborate with varied constituencies in a professional manner, exhibiting excellent written and oral communication skills, team-building skills, and demonstrating tact, poise and diplomacy while working with a wide variety of personalities
- Ability to apply good judgment and proven responsible decision-making skills; sensitivity and discretion are required to deal with highly confidential alumni, parent, student, family, donor and prospect information
- Must be a detail-oriented, self-starter with a demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities to meet aggressive timelines and challenging deadlines
- Availability for frequent travel within and outside of the state of Pennsylvania, as well as occasional evening and weekend work
- Working knowledge of electronic mail, social media, virtual platforms, and calendars, the Windows environment, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook, and Raisers Edge or comparable databases

Position Summary
The East Stroudsburg University Foundation seeks an individual to assist with the planning, coordination and execution of various alumni events, activities, and programs to support the alumni engagement function of the foundation. Reporting to the Director of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving, the Associate Director of Alumni Engagement and Outreach works across departments to help engage and connect the network of more than 45,000 East Stroudsburg University alumni to their alma mater. This individual will assist with class reunion programs, homecoming planning and implementation, legacy family events, regional alumni events, alumni affinity groups, and young alumni and student groups. This individual will also work collaboratively with the Associate Director of Annual and Integrated Giving on awareness and support for student programs and initiatives that inspire current and future alumni engagement and philanthropic support.
Essential Functions
The Associate Director of Alumni Engagement and Outreach works independently and collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities.
Engagement Initiatives
- Utilize planning and project management tools to coordinate alumni engagement initiatives including events, volunteer opportunities, affinity group activities, networking programs, and regional engagement efforts.
- Support all aspects of alumni engagement initiatives in conjunction with the Director of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving.
- Assist with signature engagement programs such as Homecoming and the annual Legacy Family Pinning Ceremony.
- Attend and provide support at ESU Foundation events including logistics, setting up, break down and clean up.
- Support regional alumni volunteers with the planning, promotion, and implementation of chapter and affinity group engagement initiatives.
- Collaborate to ensure thoughtful post-event follow-up and recognition that strengthens alumni relationships and promotes continued engagement.
Volunteer Management
- Recruit, train, steward, and recognize volunteers among alumni, students, faculty, and staff to support engagement initiatives, university priorities, and community-building opportunities.
- Develop and implement engagement opportunities that strengthen connections between recent graduates, young alumni, and their alma mater.
- Work with Associate Director(s) of Development to identify, recruit, and cultivate alumni leaders who can support regional engagement efforts, affinity groups, volunteer initiatives, and emerging alumni communities.
- Develop, support, and steward volunteer leaders within chapters/affinity groups and alumni networks to foster meaningful alumni connections and sustainable engagement opportunities.
- Work with the Associate Director of Annual and Integrated Giving on recruitment of campus and alumni volunteers for ESU Giving Days and philanthropic engagement efforts.
Outreach
- Contribute to the social media sites and publicity efforts for the Office of Alumni Engagement. Employ best practices on all forms of alumni communications.
- Partner with Director of Annual and Integrated Giving to support student engagement initiatives that foster a culture of philanthropy, volunteerism, and lifelong connection to ESU.
- Promote opportunities that encourage graduating students and young alumni to remain connected to ESU through networking, volunteerism, mentorship, philanthropy, and social engagement.
- Connect student groups with alumni affinity groups and include students in alumni communications and events where appropriate.
- Work with ESU campus departments to engage alumni with faculty, staff, and/or students through meaningful programs, opportunities, and university initiatives.
Additional Duties
- Complete other duties as assigned to support Foundation priorities.
- Monitor daily email and mail, as needed.
- Exercise professionalism and discretion when handling confidential information.
- Provide support for Alumni Association Board meetings, committees, and initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required. Three years of experience in alumni engagement, volunteer management, community engagement, event planning, relationship management, or related fields, preferably in higher education or nonprofit organizations. Specific knowledge of direct mail marketing, website administration, copywriting, and editing is highly desirable.
- Candidates must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and be able to establish and maintain strong relationships with a variety of individuals and groups.
- Experience with social media, constituent relationship management (CRM) databases, and other information systems are required. Experience with Raiser's Edge is preferred.
- The ability to work well under pressure or on deadlines and multitask while maintaining professional composure when dealing with multiple projects.
- Must have flexibility to work evenings and weekends and travel as required to support Foundation and University events and initiatives.
- Must be able to successfully complete background checks.

Accountabilities:
- Perform general office duties such as filing, typing, photocopying, and printing.
- Create labels and envelopes, and alphabetize files and data.
- Update Raiser’s Edge/Financial Edge database systems.
- Provide logistical support for on-campus alumni and Foundation stewardship events.
- Coordinate with Warrior Elite to help organize and gather volunteers at on-campus events.
- Organize hard-copy and electronic files.
- Complete other duties as assigned to meet fluctuating priorities.
Position Qualifications:
