Job Description / Key words: CNC Operator, CNC Machinist, Machinist, G-code, CNC Programming, Haas VMC, Mill, Lathe, Fryer Mill, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Jigs, Fixtures, Tooling, Stainless Steel, Precision Machining, Development Lab, Manufacturing Engineering.
This role will operate and program our existing CNC and manual equipment — an older Haas vertical machining center, a manual lathe, and a Fryer mill — to produce precision parts, one-of-a-kind jigs, fixtures, and prototype components in a fast-moving development lab environment. This person will work closely with our current CNC Technician / Lead, learning our processes and equipment, with the intent to ultimately take over day-to-day CNC operations as the company grows. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving problems, building custom tooling from scratch, and is comfortable machining a wide variety of materials, including thin stainless-steel plate.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate our Haas VMC, manual lathe, Fryer mill, drill presses, etc to produce precision machined parts
- Write and edit G-code programs; adjust offsets, feeds, and speeds to optimize cycle time and part quality
- Design and build one-of-a-kind jigs, fixtures, and tooling to support new and existing production and prototype needs
- Read and interpret prints and 3D models; use AutoCAD and SolidWorks to support part and fixture design
- Machine a wide range of materials, including stainless steel and thin stainless plate, holding tight tolerances
- Interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings accurately to ensure precise manufacturing processes.
- Conduct precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, micrometers, and other measurement instruments for quality control purposes.
- Perform machine maintenance, troubleshooting, and adjustments to maintain high productivity levels.
- Maintain and troubleshoot CNC equipment; perform routine maintenance to keep machines running reliably
- Inspect finished parts through CNC quality inspection procedures and ensure compliance with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards.
- Identify cost-effective approaches to fixturing, stock selection, and process planning
- Work directly with our current CNC Technician / Lead to learn our systems, processes, and standards
- Support the engineering team in prototyping and iterating on new designs in a development lab setting
- Help establish and document best practices and standard work as the department grows
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols involving power tools, hand tools, grinders, and other equipment.

Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience as a CNC machinist/operator
- Strong ability to write and edit G-code by hand
- Proficiency with AutoCAD; familiarity with SolidWorks
- Proven experience designing and building custom jigs and fixtures
- Experience machining stainless steel, including thin plate stock
- Familiarity with manual machining techniques using hand tools and power tools.
- Strong understanding of machining tools, measurement techniques for quality control, and manufacturing best practices.
- Comfortable working in a development/prototyping lab environment with frequently changing jobs
- Cost-conscious and creative approach to fixturing, tooling, and process planning
- Able to work independently while also mentoring and collaborating with the current CNC lead
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and precision
- Experience with Haas controls a plus
- Safety-conscious mindset with knowledge of proper machine operation procedures.
- Strong communication skills across multiple departments and management levels
- Ability to problem solve and develop effective solutions
