Overview

Join our dynamic ophthalmology practice as a Receptionist and become the friendly face and efficient coordinator that keeps our clinic running smoothly! In this vital role, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients, healthcare providers, and visitors, ensuring a welcoming environment while managing essential administrative tasks. Your energetic approach and attention to detail will help facilitate seamless patient flow, accurate record-keeping, and effective communication across all clinic operations. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to quality eye care while developing your skills in a fast-paced medical setting.

Responsibilities

Greet patients and visitors warmly, providing excellent customer service and guiding them through check-in procedures.
Schedule appointments efficiently using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks.
Verify patient insurance coverage, process medical collections, and handle billing inquiries with accuracy and professionalism.
Manage electronic health records (EHR) including documentation review, filing, and updating patient information in compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies.
Answer incoming phone calls with courteous phone etiquette; direct calls appropriately and assist with appointment rescheduling or inquiries.
Prepare and review care plans, ensuring all documentation aligns with clinical protocols and coding standards such as CPT coding, ICD-9/10, and ICD coding for billing purposes.
Support administrative tasks such as data entry, typing (including 10 key typing), filing medical records, and maintaining organized office files.
Collaborate with clinical staff to facilitate smooth patient flow and ensure timely appointment scheduling.
Maintain knowledge of health insurance processes including Medicare procedures and health information management practices.

Skills

Proven experience in a medical office environment with strong clerical skills in healthcare settings.
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks; ability to navigate electronic health records efficiently.
Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical confidentiality policies, and health insurance processes including Medicare.
Competence in medical billing, coding (ICD-9/10, CPT), and documentation review to support accurate billing practices.
Excellent customer service skills combined with professional phone etiquette and effective communication abilities.
Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and correspondence.
Bilingual abilities are highly valued to assist diverse patient populations effectively.
Prior clinic or medical office experience is preferred; familiarity with health insurance knowledge is a plus.
