Position: Children’s Extensive Services (CES) Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Job Type: Part-time- Variable hours, no set schedule
Pay: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour
Overview:
The CES Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in assisting children with developmental delays or disabilities in leading self-directed lives and participating in their communities. This is a part-time position with variable hours based on the needs of families and clients in the area. The schedule is not fixed generally. As a CES DSP, you will be responsible for proactively managing your own schedule by coordinating with program coordinators and directors to determine hours. You may be scheduled at different locations and may work a variety of shifts, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends. The position is ideal for someone seeking part-time work with flexibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily Living Support: Assist children with developmental delays or disabilities in performing activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal care, bathing, toileting, meal preparation, dressing, and grooming.
- Community Inclusion: Support the child’s participation in community activities, such as attending school, socializing with peers, and engaging in recreational activities. Provide guidance, encouragement, and emotional support to help foster community inclusion and independence.
- Health and Safety: Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the children under your care. Assist with health-related tasks such as medication administration, basic first aid, and monitoring physical and emotional changes. Follow health protocols and document all necessary health information, including vitals and seizure reports.
- Transportation: Provide safe transportation to and from appointments, activities, and other locations as needed. Adhere to traffic laws and safety protocols when driving.
- Collaborative Care: Work closely with an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized plans of care (IP). Assist in the development of the child’s goals, monitor progress, and communicate changes or concerns with program directors and medical staff.
- Documentation: Accurately maintain records of care and progress, including daily logs, health updates, and incident reports. Respond to emails and other communications in a timely manner.
- Safety Protocols: Follow all safety guidelines, including safe lifting and transferring techniques, emergency procedures, and vehicle maintenance. Conduct regular safety checks in the home and community settings to prevent hazards.
- Advocacy and Rights Protection: Advocate for the children’s rights and well-being, ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect. Report any concerns regarding abuse, neglect, or mistreatment as a mandatory reporter.
Requirements:
- Education & Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in child care, healthcare, education, or human services is preferred but not required.
- Age Requirement: Must be 18 years or older.
- License & Transportation: A valid Colorado driver’s license and reliable transportation are required. If transporting individuals, the applicant must meet state minimum automobile insurance requirements.
- Background Check: Must meet company standards for criminal and motor vehicle background checks.
- Computer Skills: Basic computer proficiency required for documentation and communication purposes.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, transfer, and assist individuals with physical tasks as needed. Must be able to work in environments that may include changes in temperature, humidity, dust, noise, and allergens. Must be able to assist children in entering and exiting vehicles and support physical transfers such as wheelchair assistance.
Note:
This position is designed to be highly flexible and part-time. The number of hours worked each week will vary depending on the needs of the families and clients in your area. There is no guarantee of a set schedule, and it is the responsibility of the CES DSP to communicate regularly with coordinators or program directors to schedule hours. If you wish to work more than 29 hours per week, you will need to contact the Program Director to discuss options, but there is no guarantee that additional hours will be available.
Additional Requirements:
- Communication: Respond to all communications in a timely manner, whether by email, phone, or other messaging platforms.
- Attendance & Scheduling: Report to work on time and as scheduled. All time-off requests must be approved in advance. Ensure accurate timekeeping and attendance records are maintained.
- Ongoing Training: Complete all mandatory new hire training and certification courses within the first 90 days of employment. Maintain all required training and certifications as directed by the state and company policies.
- Adherence to Policies: Adhere to all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other related documentation.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
This role requires frequent standing, walking, lifting, and transferring individuals. You may be required to assist with basic life skills such as bathing, cooking, cleaning, and toileting. You must be able to work both indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions, and be comfortable working with individuals with a variety of disabilities, illnesses, and medical conditions. You will be expected to assist in emergency situations and work as part of a team or independently, as needed. Employee may perform other related duties as required to meet the ongoing needs of the organization
Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
