Position Summary
The Life Skills Teacher will provide specialized instruction to students in a Life Skills classroom serving a 1st and 2nd grade campus. The teacher will deliver individualized academic, functional, social, behavioral, communication, and daily living skills instruction aligned with each student's IEP while promoting student independence and participation in the school community.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
-
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Valid Texas teaching certificate.

Valid Texas certification in General Education (Early Childhood–Grade 6 or applicable elementary certification).

Valid Texas certification in Special Education.
-
Teaching certifications held in multiple areas are preferred.

Teachers must obtain ESL Certification within one year of employment, if not already held.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instruction and Student Support
-
Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) through the ARD process in collaboration with students, families, and school staff.

Deliver academic, functional life skills, behavioral, and social-emotional instruction tailored to individual student needs.

Adapt curriculum, instructional strategies, and learning materials to support
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation of performance and IEP goals.
Classroom Management
-
Create and maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.

Implement behavior intervention strategies and support plans to address individual student needs.
-
Provide or supervise personal care and other services outlined in student IEPs and health plans.

Ensure student safety and manage crisis situations in accordance with district policies and procedures.
Collaboration and Communication
-
Work collaboratively with general education teachers, related service providers, administrators, and families to support student achievement.

Maintain positive, professional relationships with students, colleagues, and community stakeholders.

Communicate student progress, needs, and concerns effectively with all members of the educational team.
Professional Responsibilities
-
Participate in ARD meetings, faculty meetings, professional development, and other required school activities.

Comply with all federal, state, district, and special education regulations, policies, and procedures.

Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation in a timely manner.

Perform other duties as assigned.
