Overview
Join our dynamic healthcare team as a Medical Billing and Coding Specialist, where your expertise will ensure accurate and efficient processing of medical claims, coding, and billing procedures. In this vital role, you'll work closely with healthcare providers and insurance companies to facilitate smooth financial operations, optimize reimbursement processes, and maintain meticulous medical records. Your attention to detail and knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems will directly impact the quality of patient care and organizational success. Responsibilities

Review and interpret medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision), CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes for billing purposes.
Ensure accurate data entry into Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, maintaining up-to-date and compliant medical records.
Submit clean claims to insurance payers, follow up on unpaid or denied claims, and perform collections on overdue accounts through professional communication.
Verify patient insurance coverage, process payments, and manage billing adjustments as needed to ensure proper reimbursement.
Stay current with changes in medical coding standards, including ICD-9 (International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision), ICD-10 updates, and CPT coding guidelines.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies and improve coding accuracy for optimal revenue cycle management.
Maintain detailed documentation of billing activities, claim status updates, and collection efforts to ensure transparency and compliance with healthcare regulations.

Qualifications

Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting or medical office environment.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology relevant to accurate coding practices.
Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for managing patient records and billing workflows.
Proficiency in ICD coding systems (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, DRG assignment, and understanding of medical records management.
Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately and translate it into appropriate codes for billing purposes.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to minimize errors in claims processing.
