Full Job Description

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA) is a state agency responsible for maintaining the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway - two of the busiest toll roads in the United States. The NJTA is dedicated to the safe and efficient movement of people and goods along their toll roads. Every day, the Authority’s highways provide the safest, quickest, and most convenient routes for hundreds of commuters, truckers, and recreational travelers.

OUR MISSION:

We are committed to constantly improving the safety, technology, and resiliency of our toll roadway systems through sound fiscal policy and maintaining an excellent state of good repair that promotes the connectedness of our customers across the state and region.

POSITION:

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is accepting applications for current and future openings as a Part Time Toll Collector on the Garden State Parkway. Various locations and shifts available across the highway.

Works under the direction of a Toll Plaza Supervisor or Tolls Department Manager fulfilling the duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Toll Collector Manual, in order that toll revenue is accurately collected and properly secured.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs and is responsible for classifying vehicles, processing transactions and accurately collecting tolls from patrons.
Performs and is responsible for properly securing collected and assigned funds.
Performs and is responsible for maintaining good public relations with patrons of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.
Performs and is responsible for maintaining a working knowledge of the current toll collection operating procedures.
Performs and is responsible for the proper care and maintenance of assigned property owned by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.
Performs and is responsible for adequate notification to the proper location where lateness or absence will occur.
In addition, in an emergency, a Toll Collector should exercise his own best judgement in handling situations which might arise for which no procedure is prescribed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED

Must pass pre-screening testing .

Must possess a valid NJ Driver's License.

Must possess a reliable means of transportation.

BENEFITS & PAY:

Starting pay will be the minimum salary stated in this posting. Determination of location and shift shall be made during offer of employment.

After successful completion of a probationary period, this position is represented by IFPTE Local 196. Part time Toll Collectors are eligible for paid time off under the NJ Earned Sick Leave Law.

Prospective public employees should be aware that the New Jersey First Act requires employees of all public authorities to reside in the State of New Jersey unless otherwise exempted under the law.
