Full Job Description

We are currently looking for a caring individual to work as a Med Tech and Caregiver at our Assisted Living Facility.

Almond Grove Assisted Living is a small yet employee centered assisted living facility where all employees are empowered to excel at their jobs. We encourage hard work, making a positive impact on our residents, while celebrating success and positive outcomes.

All applicants must be able to pass a livescan background check and complete a pre-employment physical.

Job Description Summary:

Assumes responsibility and accountability for assisting residents with the self-administration of medication and treatments. Observes residents for changes in their physical, mental, emotional and social functioning. Supervises direct care staff and makes decisions about the resident care needs for the designated shift, consistent with facility policies and procedures. Assumes Administrative authority in the absence of management.

Responsibilities:

Accurately prepare, pass and document medications as ordered by the physician for the resident’s self-administration of medications and treatments. Provide direct care as needed, according to physician orders and in compliance with facility policy and procedures. Maintain medication room to ensure proper receiving, ordering, storage, security and disposal of medications.

Ability to understand and to follow written and verbal directions. Able to express self adequately in written and/or oral communication (including documentation in resident records) with residents, families, co-workers, doctors, and administration. Promote and maintain good public relations.

Demonstrates competency in the assessment of resident’s physical, behavioral and functional status, as well as the skills necessary to meet the needs of our resident population. Ensures quality of care.

Monitors dining room at meal times, ensures all residents are present and receiving diet per physician order. Ability to identify residents with special needs and educate Care Aides. Responds to choking emergencies and/or any other issues.

Demonstrates knowledge of and respect for the rights, dignity and individuality of each resident in all interactions. Maintains confidentiality of resident and facility information. Promotes the highest possible quality of life and level of independence for every resident. Acts as a resident advocate when necessary, and is a mandated reporter of abuse.

Informs the resident, physician, supervisor and family or responsible party when there is an incident, a significant change in physical, mental, functional or psycho-social status; a need to alter care and treatment provided; a room or roommate change; and any other information deemed necessary.

Completes required documentation of care and services delivered during shift, including observations, interventions and response. Utilizes 24 hour report form for continuity of care and presents change of shift report. Completes accident/incident forms as necessary.

Reports relevant information to Supervisor including, compliance issues, quality improvement, resident risk factors, change of condition, medication errors, incidents, expressed complaint or dissatisfaction by resident or family, refusals of treatment, loss of property, unexplained injuries, and staff conduct.

Attend required orientation, training and on-going inservice education program, and apply all information to job duties. Provide on the job orientation to new employees.

Working knowledge and ability to comply with safety program, hazard communication, utilize safe work practices, request assistance and/or training as indicated. Utilize infection control procedures, hand washing, standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent the spread of infection and promote environmental health. Ensure proper disposal of sharps.

Current knowledge of and compliance with all applicable facility policies, procedures and licensing regulations. Knowledge of emergency and disaster plan. Ability to remain calm and direct others in case of emergency. Provide first aid as necessary. Sufficient mobility and strength to move freely through the building, to assure resident safety at all times.

Education and Experience:

Must be 18 years of age.

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Direct work experience in setting passing and handling medications in an RCF may substitute education requirement.

Previous experience in a health care setting or work with the elderly population, preferred.

Ability to receive and maintain a California Background Clearance through the Dept of Social Services.

Maintain current First Aide Certification.

Physical Attributes of the job: Frequently Position self (Stooping, bending, squatting, lifting up to 50 pounds, grasping, pushing, pulling, twisting at the waist). Frequently standing or walking throughout shift.

Pay: $21.00 - $22.00 per hour
