JOB SUMMARY

Performs interpretation duties for the City Court/Probation Department

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as interpreter for the city court and probation department.
Interact with the general public in person or over the phone in response to probation related matters and interpret for court and probation staff.
Prepare and translate various documents as directed by the city court or probation officers.
General filing.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties as assigned by probation officers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or H.S.E. equivalent.
Must have valid driver’s license.
Must be fluent in English and a second language - preferably Spanish.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ability to deal effectively and courteously with the general public.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to operate telephone system and transfer calls.
Ability to understand and follow instructions of a routine nature.
Must be able to remain professional and respect confidentiality.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND VISUAL SKILLS

Logical thinking and problem solving skills.
Ability to deal with angry, irrational, or unstable defendants.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed on a daily basis as needed by the city court or probation.

POST OFFER TESTING REQUIRED

The City of Elkhart is a Drug Free Workplace. Therefore successfully passing a post offer drug screen is required (random drug testing may be conducted after employment).
Background checks producing acceptable BMV and criminal history reports required.
