Mechanical Piping Foreman
Pay: $36.00-43.00/hour (based on experience)
MIELKE Mechanical Holdings, Inc. is looking for a Mechanical Piping Supervisor to join our team in Medina, OH!
The Mechanical Piping Foreman's primary responsibility is the coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of assigned projects ensuring consistency with our company's strategy, commitments, and goals.
- The Mechanical Piping Foreman will be responsible for the success of the project they are managing including:
- Safety of the jobsite and employees
- Customer and employee satisfaction
- Project profitability (measuring man hours)
- Performance of their duties (SIP, Material Handling, Organization, etc.)
The scope of projects for Field Supervisors includes running single large, complex projects or multiple smaller projects and/or Foremen.
Priorities & Desired Results
- Serve as the primary on-site Safety representative for all activities and all employees working on assigned projects.
- Ensure that all job sites are organized, including layout of materials, protection of materials from theft and damage, and return of excess materials to vendors.
- For each project, review and understand the contract and scope of work. Comprehend scope drawings and recognize changes. Ensure workmanship and control quality on assigned projects by meeting or exceeding industry standards. Assist in compiling change orders and submitting them to the Project Manager. Review submittals and ensure their coherence to the contract.
- Effectively communicates, both written and orally with the field crew, the office, vendors, and the client. Manages customer and employee relationships to ensure their satisfaction on assigned project.
- Ensure appropriate planning by creating staffing plans aligned with budgets. Completes four week look ahead for manpower, equipment and material and setting weekly goals for the crew.
Typical Duties
Safety
- Serve as the safety supervisor for all activities and all employees working on assigned projects.
- JSA development and adherence with safety manager.
- Perform regular safety inspections on all assigned projects.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are in safe working order and have all safety features intact.
- Review and ensure that the weekly “tool box” safety meetings are being conducted by field leaders.
- Continually train and update all field employees on safety related matters, including equipment training and certification as appropriate.
- Monitor all work processes to ensure they are operating safety.
Management
- Coordinate and control all project activities from project turnover through closeout on assigned projects.
- Establish a positive “team” atmosphere with the customer and throughout the field/ between employees.
- Mentor and train employees, including proper training on required equipment.
- Setting employee and Foreman expectations on a regular basis through weekly huddles.
- Read, review & understand the entire project plans and specifications, including work of other trades where applicable.
- Understand and execute above the customer’s expectations. Communicate these expectations to the field employees.
- Communicate and coordinate with the customer and other trades on various project variances.
- Ensure that projects are being completed correctly and exceed the industry standard of workmanship.
- Complete four week look ahead planning and review with PM on a weekly basis.
- Track project labor budgets to ensure that it is being met.
- Monitor and enforce starting times, quitting times, and break times according to the company’s personnel policy.
- Streamline daily field activities to increase company profitability. Some examples are field employee cell phone use, material ordering/ pickups, and scheduling ahead/ layout.
- Serve as a liaison between the field and office personnel associated to the specific jobs being performed.
- Monitor employee performance and take a role in employee evaluations, such as completing field employee evaluation sheets and conducting performance reviews.
- Resolve employee conflicts when necessary.
- Initiate the disciplinary process when required for field personnel, up to and including termination when no other satisfactory resolution is possible.
- Attend Kick-off meeting and develop a project strategy with PM and FOM.
- Use FieldEase to track employee time and document tardy and absences.
Requirements
- Ability to pass a 2” SCH 160 SMAW 6G 6010/7018 welding test if requested
- Experience commensurable to qualify as a journeyman Welder/Pipefitter, with experience commonly obtained after six years of actual field work in the trade, which may have included apprenticeship and/or applicable vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by Pipefitters, Pipefitter Welders, Refrigeration Mechanics, Sprinkler Fitters, Plumbers and Millwrights
- Ability to travel to job sites throughout the United States and spend multiple weeks onsite as required to complete projects
- Communicate clearly verbally, in handwriting, and electronically
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of industrial/commercial mechanical construction manner of working
- Strong organizational and planning skills

- Read and understand both specifications and blue prints.

- Have a quick learning curve and be willing to attend training as necessary.
Physically, employee must be able to:
- Work easily and skillfully with hands.
- Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- See well (either naturally or with correction).
- Climb and maintain balance on high ladders and scaffolds.
- Stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
