Position Summary
Facility is seeking experienced Registered Echo Technicians/Sonographers to perform high-quality echocardiographic examinations using ultrasound imaging techniques. The Sonographer will work closely with Cardiologists and ordering physicians to obtain diagnostic cardiac images, identify and communicate significant findings, document preliminary results, and ensure accurate completion of studies in the Electronic Medical Record.
The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of Registered Echo Technician/Sonographer experience, strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy and echocardiographic imaging, and current RDCS or RCS credentials. Stress testing experience is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify and confirm patient identification using established patient safety procedures.
- Review physician orders and special instructions through the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) before performing examinations.
- Explain procedures and provide appropriate instructions to patients, families, and significant others.
- Prepare patients appropriately for echocardiographic examinations while maintaining comfort, dignity, and privacy.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology and apply appropriate ultrasound imaging techniques.
- Perform diagnostic echocardiogram testing according to established protocols and clinical standards.
- Obtain technically accurate and comprehensive cardiac ultrasound images for Cardiologist interpretation.
- Recognize and promptly communicate significant or potentially abnormal findings to the Cardiologist and ordering physician.
- Maintain accurate patient information and document preliminary findings in designated log books and electronic systems.
- Prepare and organize examination recordings, including VCR recordings when applicable, for Cardiologist review and interpretation.
- Document completion of echocardiographic examinations accurately in the EMR.
- Ensure all required clinical and technical information is properly recorded.
- Follow established medical equipment protocols, including cleaning, inspection, tagging, and removal of malfunctioning equipment.
- Maintain adequate supplies and place supply orders as necessary.
- Maintain accurate daily statistics and examination records.
- Keep the patient's immediate environment clean, orderly, and safe.
- Follow established procedures for securing patient clothing and personal belongings.
- Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA, patient confidentiality, and privacy requirements.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity, professionalism, and respect for patients and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times.
- Maintain clinical competency through continuing education, in-service training, and self-directed learning.
- Participate in Performance Improvement initiatives and Clinical Guidelines processes.
- Follow National Patient Safety Goals and applicable hospital safety standards.
- Maintain a safe environment by identifying and addressing potential hazards that could cause injury to patients, visitors, or staff.
- Participate in team-building and interdisciplinary collaboration activities.
- Effectively utilize both electronic and paper medical records as required.
- Maintain current clinical competency and professional standards.
- Follow established policies regarding attendance, punctuality, uniform, and professional conduct.
- Assist with general unit coverage when needed, including answering telephones, contacting patients, and assisting patients to appropriate seating areas.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Head/Charge Nurse to support effective unit operations.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 1 year of Registered Echo Technician/Sonographer experience.
- Hands-on experience performing diagnostic echocardiographic studies.
- Knowledge of ultrasound imaging techniques and echocardiogram testing.
- Ability to recognize and report significant findings appropriately.
- Experience with patient documentation and EMR systems.
- Knowledge of medical equipment protocols and infection control procedures.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements.
- Ability to work effectively in an acute-care hospital environment.
Preferred Experience
- Stress testing experience is preferred.
- Experience working collaboratively with Cardiologists and ordering physicians.
- Experience in a hospital-based cardiac or diagnostic imaging environment.
Education
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED/High School Equivalency Diploma.
- Successful completion of an appropriate Ultrasound/Echocardiography training program, including qualifying military training where applicable.
Required Certifications & Licensure
Candidate must hold one of the following:
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) credential through ARDMS, OR
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential through CCI.
BCLS/BLS:
- Current BCLS/BLS certification according to American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross standards is required.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or RDCS with at least one year of hands-on echocardiography experience who can independently perform high-quality cardiac ultrasound examinations, accurately document studies, recognize significant findings, and communicate effectively with Cardiologists and physicians. Candidates with stress testing experience and current BLS/BCLS certification are strongly preferred.
Pay: $65.00 - $70.00 per hour
