Prescreening Registered Nurse (RN)
REPORTS TO:

· Director/Director of Nursing

· Administrative Director

FUNCTION:

The RN is prepared to function as a member of the health-care team by exercising sound nursing judgment based on preparation, knowledge, experience in nursing and competency. The RN participates in the planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care using focused assessment in settings where nursing takes place.

HOURS:

Monday through Friday; daytime hours varied

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide overall quality nursing care administered to assigned patients on the designated shift.
Under the direction of a Professional Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse with Meds and IV's is expected to use initiative, basic problem solving skills and exercise some judgment in the practice of nursing to administer medication and peripheral IV's as appropriate.
Supports organizational and leadership decisions and goals, even if in conflict with them.
Identifies problems and seeks resources to resolve problems within their control.
Acts as a professional role model and communicates effectively with all other members of the health care team, patients, families, visitors, community agencies and other facilities.
Manages multiple demands, is organized and follows through on commitments and does not leave loose ends.
Delegates using diplomacy and tact.
Takes ownership for words and actions and is accountable for results.
Performs direct and non-direct safe nursing patient care activities as assigned, commensurate with competencies and scope of required license.
Possesses the ability to obtain and interpret information considering age specific needs.
Collects data, identifies changes in patient condition, delivers individualized nursing care, prioritizes patient needs, and follows the plan of care appropriately.
Documentation is completed and accurately reflects care provided.
Administers medications and understands their effects and potential interactions.
Performs skills related to intravenous therapy as defined by the State Board of Nursing and Hamot Medical Center policies and procedures
Presents a positive, professional image and displays support of all staff.
Understands and supports the mission and goals of the organization.
Demonstrates a commitment to confidentiality of patient personal/medical information.
Takes time to listen to others/displays empathy and compassion.
Displays appropriate and efficient response to the needs of others.

Identifies and communicates pertinent information and consistently ensures an effective hand off.
Establishes positive interpersonal relationships with all members of the health care team, patients, families and visitors. Is approachable, consistently respectful and team oriented.

REQUIREMENTS:

Completion of approved RN, LPN program or equivalent.
New graduate or current experience as RN with Meds/IVs in a healthcare setting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Basic computer knowledge and skills.
Current Commonwealth of Pa. Licensure
Will train new graduates Certified in medication administration and intravenous administration.
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
Must complete licensure examination within FOUR MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. ACLS required within 1 year of hire or transfer NIH required within 6 months of hire or transfer
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Registered Nurse (RN)
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
