Full Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Specialist to join our dealership's accounting team. This position is responsible for supporting a variety of accounting functions that contribute to the overall financial health of the dealership. The ideal candidate will have experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, general ledger accounting, and month-end processes. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced automotive environment while maintaining accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

Process, review, and reconcile vendor invoices while ensuring timely and accurate payments.
Assist with accounts receivable activities, including customer payments, deposits, and account reconciliations.
Prepare and post journal entries and maintain accurate general ledger records.
Perform monthly bank, account, and balance sheet reconciliations.
Support month-end and year-end closing procedures by preparing reports and analyzing account activity.
Assist with deal posting, vehicle titling, and registration processes as needed.
Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.
Research and resolve discrepancies with vendors, customers, and internal departments.
Generate aging reports and assist with account analysis to ensure financial accuracy.
Support internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation and reports.
Collaborate with the Controller and accounting team to improve processes, strengthen internal controls, and maintain compliance.
Provide backup support for other accounting functions as business needs require.

Qualifications

Previous accounting experience, preferably in an automotive dealership environment.
Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting.
Understanding of debits and credits, account reconciliations, and bookkeeping principles.
Experience with dealership management systems (CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, Dealertrack, Tekion, etc.) or other accounting software is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Effective communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
