Job Summary
The Side Roller Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining side roller machinery used in the fabrication of dump truck bodies. This role ensures that metal components are formed to precise specifications while maintaining quality, safety, and production efficiency standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate side roller machines to roll, bend, and shape metal materials used in dump body production
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine proper setup and material requirements
- Adjust machine settings (speed, pressure, alignment) to achieve accurate dimensions and quality finishes
- Inspect finished components for defects, accuracy, and compliance with company standards
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on side rolling equipment
- Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot issues as they arise
- Safely handle raw materials (steel plates, sheets, and structural components) using cranes or forklifts as needed
- Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety regulations
- Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and supervisors to ensure efficient workflow
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA guidelines
- This role will cross train with laser and plasma operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (technical training preferred)
- 1–3 years of experience operating rolling or metal forming equipment (preferred)
- Ability to read blueprints and measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, etc.)
- Basic mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills
- Strong attention to detail and quality control
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs (or more with assistance/equipment)
- Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment (heat, noise, dust)
Work Environment
- Industrial manufacturing facility
- Exposure to heavy machinery, moving equipment, and metal materials
- Required use of PPE (safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe boots, hearing protection)
Preferred Skills (Optional Section)
- Experience in dump body or trailer manufacturing
- Forklift or overhead crane certification
- Welding or fabrication experience
