The Unmanned Aircraft Systems Instructor will provide quality instruction to students; to maintain awareness of the role of Continuing Education in the overall College mission; to understand services available to students; to develop business and industry linkages; and to participate in in-service development opportunities. Faculty assigned to Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) instruction are responsible for delivering course content in accordance with current FAA regulations, industry standards, and workforce needs.

Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Teach all courses according to the approved course outline and, where applicable, current industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate scholastic and membership records of students enrolled in classes and submit required reports to the appropriate supervisor.
- Present recommendations to the supervisor to improve instructional programs, including revisions or updates of course outlines, curriculum, and instructional materials to ensure relevance to workforce and industry needs.
- Recommend textbook, software, and instructional material changes to the appropriate supervisor.
- Recommend the type and quality of equipment needed for instructional purposes to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain proper work hours, including established office, lab, shop, classroom, virtual classroom, and field training hours as applicable.
- Submit a Personal and Professional Development Plan to the appropriate supervisor annually.
- Serve upon request as a faculty advisor to students and provide guidance regarding educational and career pathways.
- During registration, perform assigned duties.
- Fulfill assignments to faculty committees.
- Attend all scheduled faculty meetings.
- Attend graduation ceremonies as scheduled.
- Dress appropriately to uphold the dignity of the profession and the responsibilities of the position.
- Sponsor student organizations, as appropriate and assigned, and participate in student-centered activities.
- Foster and sustain collegial relationships with colleagues, college representatives, the local community, business and industry partners, and professional organizations.
- Participate in workforce development initiatives, customized training programs, grant-funded projects, military-affiliated training programs, and special projects as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Teaching Performance
- Faculty members are expected to:
- Teach all courses according to the published curriculum with an assigned course load that supports College guidelines, goals, and objectives.
- Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and division policies.
- Plan, organize, and facilitate effective learning strategies designed to maximize student learning and achievement.
- Modify instructional methods and strategies, when appropriate, to improve student retention, address diverse learning needs, and make referrals for students requiring additional assistance.
- Recommend improvements to curriculum, textbooks, instructional techniques, delivery methods, equipment, hardware, software, and facilities.
- Maintain currency in subject matter expertise and incorporate emerging instructional technologies and best practices into face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments.
- Periodically evaluate, develop, revise, and update courses to ensure relevance, effectiveness, and alignment with workforce and industry requirements.
- Maintain classroom, laboratory, shop, field-training, and virtual learning environments that are safe, engaging, and conducive to student learning and success.
Support of College Policies and Procedures

Participation in College, Division, and Program Activities
- Serve as a faculty advisor to students as assigned.
- Post and maintain regular office hours to ensure accessibility for advising, consultation, and student support.
- Establish and maintain regular contact with students to encourage academic progress and achievement of educational goals.
- Perform registration duties as assigned.
- Attend and actively participate in faculty, committee, division, and college-wide meetings and activities, including commencement ceremonies.
- Uphold the dignity of the profession through professional behavior, appearance, communication, and maintenance of office and classroom environments.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and external stakeholders.
Contribution to the Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs
- Support recruitment, retention, and completion initiatives.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with business, industry, community organizations, and workforce development agencies.
- Assist in identifying opportunities for new programs, courses, and training initiatives that respond to community and industry needs.
- Promote the College through participation in outreach activities, professional organizations, advisory committees, and community events.
- Sponsor student organizations, as appropriate and assigned.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and student success.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Aviation Management, Aviation Technology, Aeronautics, Engineering Technology, Geospatial Technology, Remote Sensing, Information Systems, or a closely related field.\
- Equivalent combinations of industry training, military experience, technical certifications, and demonstrated professional UAS experience may be considered in lieu of a degree where permitted by College policy.
- Current FAA Remote Pilot Certificate with a Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Rating (Part 107).
- Ability to maintain FAA currency and compliance with all applicable regulations governing UAS operations.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to instructional, field training, and off-site flight locations as required.
Preferred Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in UAS operations, aviation, aerospace, military aviation, geospatial technology, engineering technology, public safety drone operations, commercial drone services, or a closely related
- Demonstrated experience conducting flight operations, mission planning, risk management, aircraft maintenance, data collection, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with one or more of the following preferred:
- Aerial photography and videography
- Mapping and surveying
- Photogrammetry and 3D modeling
- Infrastructure and utility inspections
- Precision agriculture
- Public safety and emergency response operations
- Enterprise drone program management
- UAS data processing and analysis software
- Previous teaching, corporate training, military instruction, workforce development training, or industry mentoring experience preferred.
- Experience delivering instruction in classroom, laboratory, field-flight, hybrid, or online environments preferred.
