The Fire Sprinkler Inspection & Service Manager is a working manager responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the fire sprinkler inspection and service departments while also personally performing fire sprinkler inspections in the field.
This position will lead and support a team of inspectors and service technicians while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, profitably, and in accordance with applicable NFPA standards, local codes, AHJ requirements, and company procedures.
The manager will divide their time between field inspections and department management, stepping in to perform scheduled inspections, assist with larger or more complex inspections, cover workload when necessary, and provide hands-on training and quality control for the inspection team.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesField Inspections
- Personally perform scheduled fire sprinkler inspections as part of the normal responsibilities of the position.
- Inspect, test, and document wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, standpipe, fire pump, and other applicable fire protection systems.
- Perform inspections and testing in accordance with NFPA 25, applicable codes, AHJ requirements, and company procedures.
- Accurately identify and document system deficiencies.
- Complete inspection reports accurately and submit documentation in a timely manner.
- Communicate inspection results and deficiencies professionally to customers.
- Assist with larger, more technical, or higher-profile inspections.
- Provide additional field inspection coverage during periods of high workload, vacations, employee absences, or scheduling conflicts.
- Use field inspection work as an opportunity to evaluate technician performance, provide training, and maintain consistent inspection standards.
Team Leadership & Management
- Manage, coach, and support fire sprinkler inspectors and service technicians.
- Provide daily direction and help crews resolve technical and customer-related issues.
- Hold team members accountable for productivity, quality, safety, documentation, and customer service.
- Conduct regular team meetings and individual performance reviews.
- Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training employees.
- Identify training needs and develop inspectors and technicians to increase their capabilities and certifications.
- Provide hands-on field training when necessary.
- Promote teamwork and communication between inspection, service, sales, scheduling, and administrative staff.
Inspection Operations
- Oversee scheduling and completion of all fire sprinkler inspections.
- Balance personal inspection responsibilities with the management and supervision of the department.
- Ensure inspections are performed in accordance with applicable NFPA requirements, adopted codes, AHJ requirements, and company procedures.
- Review inspection reports for accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation of deficiencies.
- Ensure inspection reports are completed and submitted in a timely manner.
- Monitor inspector productivity and department workload.
- Assist inspectors with unusual systems, technical questions, and challenging customer situations.
- Perform periodic field quality-control inspections to ensure company standards are being followed.
Service Operations
- Manage and support sprinkler service technicians performing repairs, troubleshooting, maintenance, and emergency service.
- Review deficiencies identified during inspections and ensure repair opportunities are followed up on quickly.
- Coordinate service scheduling based on customer needs, urgency, technician skill level, and available manpower.
- Assist with estimating and pricing service repairs when needed.
- Ensure service work is properly documented, completed, and submitted for billing.
- Help technicians troubleshoot difficult system problems and determine appropriate repair solutions.
- Monitor callbacks and repeat service issues and implement corrective actions.
Scheduling & Workforce Management
- Coordinate with office staff to maintain an efficient schedule for inspectors and service technicians.
- Maintain an appropriate personal inspection schedule while leaving sufficient time to manage the department.
- Review workloads and manpower requirements regularly.
- Assign work based on technician qualifications, location, customer needs, and job requirements.
- Monitor employee hours, overtime, productivity, and utilization.
- Adjust schedules for emergencies, employee absences, priority customers, and unexpected workload changes.
- Be willing to perform inspections when additional field coverage is required.
Customer Service
- Maintain strong relationships with customers.
- Provide professional communication regarding inspections, deficiencies, repairs, and scheduling.
- Assist with resolving customer complaints and service issues.
- Explain inspection findings and required repairs clearly and professionally.
- Ensure customers receive timely proposals and follow-up on identified deficiencies.
- Identify opportunities for additional inspections, repairs, service agreements, and recurring services.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Review inspection and service documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform field quality-control checks on inspectors and service technicians.
- Ensure employees follow applicable NFPA standards, manufacturer requirements, local codes, AHJ requirements, and company procedures.
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship and documentation.
- Track callbacks, failed inspections, customer complaints, and recurring quality issues.
- Develop corrective actions and additional training when necessary.
- Lead by example by maintaining a high standard of inspection quality in their own fieldwork.
Financial & Department Performance
- Help manage the inspection and service departments to meet company revenue and profitability goals.
- Monitor monthly inspection and service revenue.
- Track labor efficiency, billable hours, overtime, callbacks, and material usage.
- Ensure completed inspections and service work are submitted for billing promptly.
- Monitor open deficiencies and service opportunities to prevent work from falling through the cracks.
- Work with sales and management to grow recurring inspection and service revenue.
- Assist in establishing department goals, budgets, and performance expectations.

Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of fire sprinkler industry experience preferred.
- Strong hands-on fire sprinkler inspection experience required.
- Previous supervisory, lead technician, or management experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, standpipe, fire pump, and related fire protection systems.
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA 25.
- Familiarity with NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, and applicable local codes preferred.
- Ability to read fire sprinkler drawings and understand system design and operation.
- Experience troubleshooting fire sprinkler systems.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and scheduling abilities.
- Ability to balance field inspection responsibilities with management responsibilities.
- Comfortable using inspection software, scheduling systems, and electronic documentation.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- NICET, CSA, Backflow, Ansul systems, Hood certification, state/local licensing preferred.
Overall Expectations
The Fire Sprinkler Inspection & Service Manager is a hands-on working manager, not solely an office-based management position.
This individual is expected to lead from the field when necessary, personally perform inspections, support inspectors and service technicians, solve problems, maintain customer relationships, and ensure the department operates safely and profitably.
The manager is expected to take ownership of the department—from the initial inspection through deficiency identification, proposal, repair, completion, and billing—while continually improving productivity, quality, customer retention, recurring revenue, technician development, and department profitability.
Position is full time with benefits, bonus' and quarterly bonus.
