Full Job Description

Position Summary:

The Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the clinical operations of The Lung Center. This position involves direct patient care, diagnostic testing, administrative support, and coordination of back-office procedures. The individual in this role will be responsible for working up patients, obtaining vital signs, performing diagnostic procedures including chest X-rays and Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs), scribing for the physician, and scheduling patient procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Clinical Responsibilities:

Room patients including greeting, obtaining vital signs, and completing thorough intake documentation (medication reconciliation, medical history, ROS, PE elements, and MIPS requirements).
Update patient charts to ensure accurate PCP, allergies, pharmacy information, and demographics prior to provider evaluation.
Prepare charts in advance of patient visits by obtaining and reviewing hospital records, CT scans, imaging studies, compliance reports, and other relevant diagnostics.
Obtain CPAP/PAP compliance data from electronic dashboards prior to provider encounter or verbally request compliance data from DME companies when needed.
Perform chest X-rays, walk tests, immunizations, injections, and specialty injections as ordered by the provider.
Set up home sleep study devices and provide patient instruction on proper usage.
Enter and process provider-directed orders including CPAP, CT scans, PET scans, low-dose CT scans, laboratory studies, and other diagnostics.
Act as a scribe during physician-patient encounters and ensure accurate EMR documentation.
Maintain exam room readiness and sanitize desks, computers, and clinical equipment daily.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Schedule follow-up appointments after provider visits.
Reschedule appointments as needed and contact no-show patients when time permits.
Close charts by:
Ensuring all provider notes are finalized and attached.
Pulling and verifying appropriate diagnosis codes.
Assigning correct CPT codes and applying modifiers when required.
Confirming all orders have been entered and documented.
Obtain additional information from MedConnect or hospital systems as requested by the provider.
Answer phones as workflow allows and assist patients with scheduling or refill requests within scope.
Coordinate with DME providers for compliance documentation and order follow-up.
Support efficient provider workflow by ensuring all diagnostic materials are readily available prior to patient encounters.

Compliance and Safety:

- Follow all OSHA, HIPAA, and clinic-specific guidelines and protocols.

- Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure a secure working environment.

- Participate in regular training, staff meetings, and ongoing education.

Qualifications:

- High School diploma or equivalent (Required)

- At least 1 year of experience working in a clinical setting (Preferred)

- Experience with EMR systems (Preferred)

- Experience obtaining and recording vital signs (Preferred)

Licenses/Certifications:

- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent (Preferred)

- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (must be able to obtain)

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

- Proficient in use of computers and electronic medical systems

- Ability to maintain professionalism and discretion at all times

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
