Reports To: Nutrition Services Director and/or Building Administration

Position Summary

The Substitute Nutrition Services Worker provides temporary support to school kitchens and nutrition programs in the absence of regularly assigned nutrition services staff. This position assists with food preparation, meal service, kitchen cleanliness, and other duties necessary to support the district's student nutrition program while maintaining a safe and sanitary food service environment.

Substitute staff are expected to follow all district procedures, food safety regulations, and applicable state and federal guidelines for school nutrition programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Assist with the preparation and serving of student meals in accordance with district nutrition program guidelines.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, serving areas, and equipment.
Follow proper food handling and food safety procedures.
Assist with meal service, including serving food and monitoring student meal lines.
Operate basic kitchen equipment as required.
Assist with stocking, storing, and organizing food and supplies.
Follow all safety procedures and health regulations related to school food service operations.
Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with students, staff, and coworkers.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a school setting.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Nutrition Services Director or building administration.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Ability to establish positive working relationships with coworkers and school staff.
Ability to communicate effectively using oral and written language.
Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Ability to follow food safety and sanitation procedures.

Required Background Checks

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background checks including:

Criminal background screening and fingerprinting
Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check
Any additional screenings required by district policy

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:

Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift and carry kitchen supplies and food items as needed.
Ability to work in a kitchen environment with varying temperatures.

Terms of Employment

Substitute positions are temporary, on-call, and as-needed. Assignments are determined by district substitute needs and availability and do not guarantee regular hours, ongoing assignments, or continued employment.

Typical assignments may vary depending on building needs.

Salary/Benefits

Compensation will be in accordance with the Fremont RE-2 Substitute Salary Schedule. Substitute employees are not eligible for district benefits.
