Steam Management, Inc. (SMI) is an energy efficiency EPC contractor providing custom design/build solutions in the built environment to clients nationwide. Our markets include commercial, institutional, municipal, and industrial facilities. Our projects include in-house surveys, design, engineering, project management, commissioning, and on-going service of complex multi-discipline turnkey projects. This position is fully remote but requires frequent travel to work sites. Living near a major airport is preferred.
The Project Manager (PM) is responsible for the planning, coordination, documentation, and execution of contracted projects. The PM is responsible for project review and planning, project budgeting and forecasting, contractor sourcing, solicitation, selection and quotations, project planning & scheduling, company resource allocation and end-to-end customer communication. The role at times also requires accessing spaces which require some physical fitness.
The PM works also works with project development engineers to identify and assist development of future energy efficiency retrofit projects for various customers. Through this process, you will work with sales, engineering, and procurement on budgeting project scopes, identifying opportunities and assisting in strategic selling efforts.
This challenging and demanding role is a pivotal leadership position in our rapidly growing energy conservation services company. In this role you will have frequent interaction with sales and engineering through the life cycle of our projects and be forward facing our customers.
Responsibilities
- Maintain safety practices in compliance with SMI procedures in all aspects of job performance
- Adhere to SMI safety rules, ensure compliance, and lead weekly safety meetings
- Uphold Steam Management’s Standards of Quality and Excellence
- Deliver completed projects in accordance with contractual obligations and scope of work
- Prepare and manage project budgets
- Prepare and maintain project schedule including participation in development and regular updates with team members and project stakeholders
- Conduct weekly project meetings with owner, design team members, jurisdictional authorities, and construction team members
- Responsible for project adherence to contracted scope of work as well as participating in preconstruction process as necessary
- Responsible for client management throughout procurement, construction, and post-construction processes
- Assists in development and implementation of quality assurance plans during the design and construction phases and seeks to align client expectations into this process
- Develop and manage departmental reporting guidelines to include daily installation documentation, daily written project updates, daily and weekly email communications within and outside of the organization, daily and weekly safety briefings and meetings
- Development of JHA, work plans and MS Project master schedules
- Review, confirm, and approve weekly billings to SMI
- Assist in design and developing new projects, attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site contractor walkthroughs
- Maintain open lines of communication with customer, subcontractor, and SMI management
- Promote project culture consistent with SMI values

- Travel nationwide as needed, for extended duration projects with weekend travel home

Qualifications
- Technical degree with minimum 7 years’ experience in mechanical design/construction/installation, project management, or other related equivalent work experience. BSME preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, Project); high proficiency in Excel required
- Strong communication and technical writing skills
- Project management experience with subcontractor coordination and field execution
- Client-facing experience in technical or consulting environments
- Ability to work independently and remotely on projects
- Ability to travel as needed (60 - 70% home on most weekends)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with all project stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP, CAMP, or desire to obtain
- OSHA 30, EM 385 USACE
- Plumbing + Mechanical skills, steam / fluid system maintenance experience a plus
- Knowledge of piping and pressure vessel codes
- Experience with energy performance contracts (preferred), energy management, or utility rebate programs.
- Hands-on testing, piping, or mechanical skills, including experience in steam systems
- Experience in process design (reviewing P&IDs, Line Drawings) preferred
- Proven ability to drive tasks forward while awaiting necessary information
