North American Fire Protection is hiring an experienced Traveling Fire Sprinkler Foreman to lead crews on large-scale commercial and industrial fire sprinkler projects throughout the United States.
This is not an entry-level Foreman position.
We are looking for a proven fire sprinkler field leader with strong Fitter-level technical knowledge who can lead people, run production, solve problems, communicate with customers and take ownership of field execution on complex projects.
If your Foreman experience has primarily consisted of working with one helper or completing small tenant fit-outs, this position will likely not be the right fit.
If you have successfully led sprinkler crews on large industrial projects involving wet systems, dry systems, preaction systems, ESFR, fire pumps, large mains and complex coordinated installations, we want to talk to you.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Traveling Fire Sprinkler Foreman is North American's primary field leader on the jobsite.
You will be responsible for leading the crew while serving as the central point of communication between North American's field team, Superintendent, Project Manager, Designers, Operations, general contractor and customer.
This is a working Foreman position. You will work alongside your crew as appropriate, but your primary responsibility is making sure the entire jobsite operation moves forward safely, productively and professionally.
Great Fitters are not always great Foremen.
We need leaders who combine strong fire sprinkler installation knowledge with communication, planning, organization, accountability, problem-solving and people skills.
WHAT YOU'LL DOLead the Crew
- Lead Fire Sprinkler Fitters and Apprentices on large commercial and industrial projects.
- Plan daily work, assign responsibilities and clearly communicate priorities.
- Drive production, quality, safety and crew accountability.
- Manage manpower based on project priorities and individual capabilities.
- Coach and develop Fitters and Apprentices through hands-on field leadership and on-the-job training.
- Address performance, attendance and jobsite issues professionally and promptly.
- Lead by example in work ethic, attitude, safety, quality and professionalism.
Run the Jobsite
- Serve as North American's primary field representative on the project.
- Coordinate with General Contractors, Assistant Superintendents, Superintendents, Project Managers, Project Executives, other trades, inspectors, vendors and truck drivers.
- Coordinate internally with North American's Superintendent, Project Manager, Designers, Operations and leadership.
- Attend project coordination, scheduling, planning and safety meetings.
- Maintain visibility into current project conditions and upcoming requirements.
- Identify constraints and problems early and communicate them before they impact production or schedule.
Plan & Drive Production
- Read and interpret fire sprinkler drawings, blueprints, specifications and coordinated/BIM drawings.
- Plan daily and weekly field activities around project schedules and milestones.
- Maintain look-ahead planning for manpower, materials, equipment, access and upcoming work.
- Sequence installation efficiently and adjust crew activities as project conditions change.
- Monitor production and maintain accountability for progress.
- Troubleshoot installation challenges and develop practical solutions.
- Coordinate technical or design questions before unauthorized field changes are made.
- Work alongside the crew as appropriate while maintaining overall responsibility for field execution.
Own Materials & Logistics
- Know what material the crew needs today and what will be needed next.
- Maintain material look-ahead planning and identify shortages before they stop production.
- Communicate material requirements and required dates accurately.
- Coordinate deliveries with truck drivers, vendors and project personnel.
- Verify materials and equipment are received, documented, stored and protected properly.
- Manage company tools, lifts and jobsite equipment.
- Minimize material waste, loss and unnecessary duplicate ordering.
Own Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Maintain responsibility for North American's day-to-day field safety performance.
- Enforce OSHA, project-specific and North American safety requirements.
- Complete and enforce required JSAs, toolbox talks, equipment inspections and PPE requirements.
- Address unsafe conditions and behaviors immediately.
- Perform ongoing quality-control inspections.
- Ensure installations comply with approved drawings, specifications, applicable NFPA requirements and North American standards.
- Identify and correct deficiencies before inspection or acceptance.
Communicate Every Day
Our Foreman is North American's eyes and ears on the jobsite.
Accurate communication from the field is a critical part of this position.
- Complete a thorough Daily Report every workday.
- Document manpower, work completed, progress, deliveries, materials, equipment, delays, constraints and significant project activity.
- Provide clear photo documentation of installation progress, project conditions, deliveries and issues.
- Complete JSAs, equipment inspections, toolbox talks, timekeeping and required progress documentation accurately and on time.
- Use North American's required field applications and construction software consistently.
- Communicate significant problems immediately rather than waiting until the end of the day.
- Keep the Superintendent and Project Manager informed of project status, upcoming needs, risks and constraints.
FIRE SPRINKLER EXPERIENCE WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Qualified candidates should have:
- Strong Fire Sprinkler Fitter-level technical competency.
- Significant fire sprinkler installation experience, with 8+ years preferred.
- Proven experience leading sprinkler crews on large commercial or industrial construction projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage manpower, production, materials and field coordination.
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA 13 and fire sprinkler installation requirements.
- Experience reading fire sprinkler plans, construction drawings and coordinated/BIM layouts.
- Experience with wet-pipe sprinkler systems.
- Experience with dry-pipe sprinkler systems.
- Experience with preaction sprinkler systems.
- Experience with ESFR sprinkler systems.
- Experience with fire pumps and fire pump piping.
- Experience with large industrial fire sprinkler systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and field problem-solving ability.
- Strong understanding of OSHA and construction safety requirements.
- Excellent communication and people-management skills.
- Ability to hold employees accountable while maintaining a professional and productive crew.
- Ability to use construction technology and complete required field documentation consistently.
- Valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Ability and willingness to travel nationwide for extended periods, typically 4–6 weeks at a time.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Additional consideration will be given to candidates with experience in:
- Industrial cold storage facilities.
- Food and beverage processing facilities.
- Data centers and mission-critical construction.
- Distribution centers and large warehouses.
- Manufacturing facilities.
- Large-scale design-build fire protection projects.
- NICET certification.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Procore, Raken or similar construction field-management software.

You are someone who can lead people and lead a jobsite.
You communicate well. You plan ahead. You know your drawings. You know your systems. You know what material is coming and what is missing. You recognize problems before they become emergencies. You hold your crew accountable. You can work professionally with everyone from an Apprentice to a Project Executive.
Most importantly, you understand that when you are leading a North American project, you represent North American on that jobsite.
TRAVEL & TYPICAL SCHEDULE
This is a nationwide traveling position.
- Travel assignments are typically 4–6 weeks at a time.
- 10-hour shifts Monday through Friday are common.
- Typical project hours are approximately 7:00 AM–5:30 PM.
- Saturday overtime is frequently available or required depending on project schedules.
- Overtime is paid at 1.5x for hours worked over 40.
- North American books and pays for qualifying hotel accommodations.
- Traveling employees receive $40 daily per diem in accordance with company policy.
Candidates must be comfortable traveling and working away from home for extended periods.
PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
This is a working field leadership position in commercial and industrial construction.
The position requires the ability to:
- Climb ladders and work from aerial lifts and scaffolding.
- Work safely at heights.
- Operate threading machines, lifts and construction equipment.
- Lift, carry, push and pull construction materials and equipment.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach and work overhead for extended periods.
- Work in restricted or confined spaces when required.
- Work indoors and outdoors in hot, cold, wet and other industrial conditions.
- Travel nationwide and remain onsite for extended project assignments.
