Lead a Center That Shapes Bright Futures!

Center Manager / Lead Teacher
Full-Time | Exempt | In Person

Lead, Teach, and Inspire Every Day

Are you a strong leader who also loves working directly with young children and families? Join SEK-CAP, Inc. as a Center Manager/Lead Teacher, a unique role combining center-wide leadership with hands-on early childhood teaching. You’ll guide staff, ensure program excellence, and lead your own classroom, all while ensuring compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and state licensing requirements.

This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, values collaboration, and is passionate about supporting children ages 0–5 and their families.

What You’ll Do

Leadership & Supervision

Provide daily leadership, coaching, and supervision for classroom staff, custodial staff, and cooks (with support from Nutrition Manager).
Conduct reflective supervision and performance appraisals.
Cross-train for all center positions and serve as the first point of support for staff.
Facilitate team meetings, guide problem-solving, and ensure accountability.

Program Implementation & Compliance

Maintain compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, KDHE Licensing, CACFP, ERSEA, APRICOT, Frog Street, Cognitive Toybox, and agency policies.
Promote excellence in daily operations and uphold agency mission and values.
Order/purchase classroom and center supplies through approved systems.

Classroom & Child Development Oversight (Lead Teacher Responsibilities)

Create individualized weekly lesson plans using observations and Cognitive Toybox.
Provide high-quality instruction for children ages 0–5 and model best practices for staff.
Ensure active supervision and developmentally appropriate learning environments.
Complete screenings, monitor child development, and make referrals as needed.
Use social-emotional strategies to support positive behavior.

Family & Community Engagement

Conduct home visits and parent-teacher conferences for the assigned classroom.
Collaborate with Family Advocates and Health/Nutrition/Special Services staff.
Ensure family engagement, documentation of recruitment/volunteer hours, and smooth kindergarten transitions.
Participate in IEP/IFSP meetings as a resource and family advocate.

Data Management & Administration

Ensure accurate completion of lesson plans, attendance, meal counts, reports, and time sheets.
Complete required documentation for both program and staff management.

Training, Safety & Professional Expectations

Assist with staff development tracking and participate in mental health consultations.
Conduct health & safety checks and ensure safe indoor/outdoor environments.
Serve as the primary contact for emergencies and center operations outside regular hours.
Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and strong community advocacy.

What We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with 15 ECE hours preferred
Five years of supervisory experience preferred
3–5 years of classroom experience preferred
Ability to obtain Kansas Site Director Approval within 30 days
Meets KDHE licensing requirements for Lead Teacher position
Valid driver’s license and ability to meet agency insurance guidelines
CPR/First Aid certification (or able to obtain at hire)
Successful completion of TB test, physical exam, and background checks
