Full Job Description

Join the team at Humboldt Bay STRTP, a new Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program serving girls ages 12–17 in Eureka.

EA Family Services is building a strong, supportive team to help create a safe, stable, home-like environment for youth who have experienced trauma and significant emotional or behavioral challenges.

Our staff build relationships, provide structure and consistency, teach everyday life skills, and help youth develop the confidence and skills they need to successfully transition to a family or community setting.

We’re looking for dependable, grounded professionals who can connect with teens while maintaining healthy boundaries and clear expectations. The right person can be compassionate without losing structure, stay calm when situations become challenging, and work collaboratively as part of a treatment team.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise, mentor, and support girls ages 12–17 in a residential treatment setting.
Build positive, professional relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
Provide consistent structure, expectations, and trauma-informed support.
Help youth develop independent living, coping, communication, relationship, and problem-solving skills.
Lead and participate in recreational activities, community outings, appointments, school-related activities, and daily routines.
Support youth through emotional or behavioral challenges using approved trauma-informed interventions and de-escalation techniques.
Work collaboratively with clinicians, administrators, rehabilitation staff, social workers, families, and other members of the youth’s treatment team.
Implement individual needs and services plans and treatment goals.
Transport youth as needed using agency vehicles.
Complete accurate and timely documentation, progress notes, incident reports, and other required records.
Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming, and home-like environment.
Communicate effectively between shifts and contribute to a supportive team culture.
Model responsibility, respect, healthy communication, and appropriate adult relationships.

An understanding that behavior is often a form of communication and that youth need both compassion and accountability.
Experience or interest in youth development, behavioral health, residential care, mentoring, coaching, education, social services, or similar work.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or overnight shifts depending on program needs.
A genuine interest in helping young people build healthier and more successful futures.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following qualification pathways:

Bachelor’s Degree (BA or BS); or
Valid Child Development Teaching Permit; or
Completion of at least 12 semester units in Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Behavioral Science, or another related field, plus at least 100 hours of experience working with youth; or
Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor qualification plus at least 100 hours of experience working with youth; or
Vocational certificate, credential, or journeyperson status plus at least 100 hours of mentoring or coaching experience; or
At least one year of full-time or equivalent volunteer experience working in a group home, STRTP, residential program, behavioral health program, or other youth-serving setting; or
Qualifying lived experience with the child welfare, behavioral health, juvenile justice, special education, or similar systems.

Additional Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must meet California Community Care Licensing and STRTP personnel requirements.
Must successfully complete required background clearances.
Must meet agency driving requirements if transporting youth.
Must be able to complete required orientation and ongoing training.
Must be able to respond appropriately to behavioral and emergency situations in a residential environment.

Training

EA Family Services provides paid orientation and ongoing training to prepare staff for working successfully in a therapeutic residential environment. Training includes trauma-informed care, crisis prevention and intervention, documentation, professional boundaries, mandated reporting, medication and health-related procedures, and other STRTP-required topics.

Schedule

Full and part time positions available.

Schedules may include:

Day and evening shifts
Overnight shifts
Weekdays and weekends
Holidays as scheduled

Residential programs operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
