Team of Stars Summer Camp is a unique program that promotes positive youth development for a middle-school population through the performance and production of an original musical theater piece written and performed by the campers.
The TOS Summer 5 week Camp targets Montgomery County middle-school youth from low-income families. Camp concludes with a fully-staged musical production followed by a cast party for the youth, their families, and guests. The campers are trained in, and contribute to, every aspect of the production, including design, choreography, music, and script playwriting.
During the 5-week session, focus is on the examination of social issues and the learning of technical theatrical skills. Combining the campers’ perspectives on problem-solving certain social issues and their artistic abilities, we create an origional juke box musical. This creative process provides youth with resources needed to address critical, challenging, and important issues through the arts.
We are looking for a candidate with experience teaching/working with youth and in the area of dance.
- Provide dependable, responsible, and quality dance instruction
- Serve as the choreographer for the Team of Stars production
- Work well with middle school youth and colleagues
- Attend 2-day staff orientation prior to start of camp
- Be available to work from 8:30 am until 4:00pm Monday through Fridays during camp weeks
- Take part in a Restorative Practices mediation for campers and/or staff when necessary
- Assist with striking the stage and clean-up
- Undergo fingerprinting/background check
Pay: Stipend. $20/hour, 40-45 hours a week
