Lighthouse Tech LLC provides simple, judgment-free technology support for seniors across the greater Portland, Maine area, both in-person and online. Founded in August 2024, the company focuses on one-on-one assistance with computers, phones, tablets, smart TVs, printers, home wifi networks, and more. Services range from email and app setup to device migration, entertainment system configuration, and practical troubleshooting guides. Lighthouse Tech emphasizes cybersecurity, online safety, and clear password management to help clients stay secure and confident. Every session is tailored to each client's pace, skill set, and comfort level — the goal is simple: more confidence, less frustration, and technology that actually works the way clients want it to.
We're looking for a patient, personable tech consultant to take on some in-home and remote client appointments.
What you'll do:
- Answer technology questions from clients, instruct them on new processes they want to learn, troubleshoot common issues, and generally help clients feel comfortable with their technology each and every session
- Provide a friendly, warm, and patient presence to help people with their technology needs
- Help clients set up and troubleshoot devices (Mac, Windows, iPhone, Android, printers, televisions)
- Set up and manage password managers and account security, including scam/phishing awareness
- Help with printer setup, scanning, and mobile printing
- Configure calendars, email, and notes apps for easier day-to-day use
- Set up dual monitors, screen mirroring to TVs, and other display/hardware needs
- Walk clients through streaming services, video calls, and other everyday apps
- Write clear, plain-language follow-up instructions clients can refer back to after each visit
- Assist with photo organization, transfers, and backup (iCloud, Photos apps and libraries, Time Machine)
- Adapt your approach for clients with varying comfort levels and physical/cognitive considerations (e.g., low vision, memory concerns, Parkinson's-related symptoms)
- Keep brief notes on each session and help schedule follow-up appointments
- Notice when a client might benefit from an additional service or a recurring appointment, and flag that back to me
Who we're looking for:
- Comfortable across both Apple (Mac and iOS), Windows, and Android ecosystems (familiarity with ChromeOS a plus but not necessary)
- Patient, warm, and clear communicator — no jargon, no rushing
- Prior experience with and genuine enjoyment of working with older adults
- Reliable transportation for in-home visits around the Portland area, and ability to enter homes safely without accessibility accommodations
- Prior tech support, IT help desk, or caregiving-adjacent experience a plus; relevant certifications or training in IT support a plus
