Job Description and Duties

Erect, maintain, and repair various buildings and structures; make rough sketches and cost estimates; requisition stores and supplies; advise in the selection of building materials; keep records and make simple reports, and may instruct and lead unskilled assistants.

Working Conditions

Physical labor is an essential component in remedy of most Plant Operations related conditions. In this working supervisor role, the incumbent must be physically capable of demonstrating proper technique, performing work in the absence of subordinates, and personally performing the more complex or sensitive technical tasks. At minimum, this requires full range of body motion to access work locations. The incumbent must be able to go up and down stairs and ladders, and traverse crawl spaces under buildings and above ceilings, and descend into excavations bringing with him/her the tools and supplies necessary to repair the surfaces being serviced.

Department Information

DSH-Coalinga opened in 2005 and began treating forensically committed patients, mostly of which are sexually violent predators. It is a self-contained psychiatric hospital constructed with a security perimeter. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security as well as transportation of patients to outside medical services and court proceedings.

All state civil service employees are currently subject to a mandatory Personal Leave Program (PLP). The PLP program reduces the monthly gross salary but provides PLO leave credits in lieu of pay. The amount of salary reduction depends on the classification and associated union Bargaining Unit (BU). The BU that represents this position is BU#12 –International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) . The expected salary reduction will be 3% of the salary identified above, and you will accrue approximately # 5 hours of PLP each qualifying pay period. Incumbents will be subject to the PLP salary reduction and leave accruals through June 30, 2027.

This limited term position may be extended up to 24 months and has the possibility of becoming permanent. This advertisement may also be used to fill future vacancies for positions that are of the same classification and same tenure/time base if the vacancy occurs while this job posting is active.
