Job Summary
This position requires employee to be self-motivated and responsible. Performs a variety of tasks relating to day-to-day weed, disease, and pest control of farm fields, grasses, crops, etc. Primary duties include operating and driving sprayer or other farm equipment, analyzing crop and field needs, mixing and applying proper chemicals, recording use of chemicals and fields, and maintaining spray and chemical equipment. Individual must understand measurements and calculations needed to adequately spray fields and crops. Mix and use chemicals following all safety instructions in handling and storing all chemicals as directed by manufacturer, the company and Federal regulations. Maintain professional representation of the Company in all interactions with customers and through responsible driving.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Operation of all farm equipment
- Scout fields for weeds, bugs, and disease which requires physically crawling around on knees to inspect the dirt, grass, weeds, bugs, etc.
- Must be able to read and follow chemical labels
- Good math skills -Measurements and calculations
- Properly mix tanks with designated chemicals and spray indicated areas
- Mix and load chemicals safely according to company, manufacturer and federal regulations
- Coordinate with mowing, harvest, and irrigation depts on spraying
- Recordkeeping of all daily spray logs for chemicals and fields
- Maintain Chemical SDS and Chemical Label database
- Inventory of chemicals
- Order Chemicals as needed
- Inspect equipment for mechanical items and safety issues and perform preventative maintenance
- Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned equipment
- Remain compliant with all Company and Environmental safety policies and state and federal transportation regulations.
- Effectively communicates and follow instructions
- Responsible for equipment, property safety and cleanliness
- Maintain good attendance and performance records
- Other job duties and tasks as assigned
Requirements/Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED equivalent preferred
- Prior pesticide/chemical experience preferred
- Ability to plan and organize work according to Manager’s instructions
- Ability to prioritize and work within deadlines
- Ability to work long hours in outdoor conditions
- Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (weather conditions, land issues, etc.)
- Must be able to work effectively under time constraints and exercise good judgment under pressure
- Maintain professional and cooperative relationships with Managers and staff
- Possess excellent time management and organizational skills
- You must be flexible and understand that your job duties may change from time to time and that you may be asked to “help out” in other areas of the business
Education and Experience
- Valid Driver’s License
- Pesticide applicator's license – within 90 days of employment
- Mechanical and safety aptitude and ability to perform routine equipment maintenance
Physical Requirements
Stationary Position:
Must be able to remain stationary for 80% of day.
Walk/Move:
Position needs to frequently move about equipment or facilities to deliver or secure products, etc.
Climb, Ascend/Descend:
Ascends/descends steps to get in and out of equipment
Operate, Activate, Use, Prepare, Inspect, Place, Detect, Position:
Constantly operates sprayer and other farm equipment.
Position Self/Move:
Constantly sits in equipment to operate sprayer equipment while treating fields and crop. Constantly crawling, standing, stooping, bending, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to handle uneven drives/bumps.
Communication:
Constantly communicates with Managers and other employees to ensure field work is relayed properly. Must be able to exchange accurate information.
Visual:
Must be able to visually detect, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, observe, inspect, estimate, and assess products, equipment, and drive.
Move, Transport, Position, Put, Install, Remove:
Frequently moves product and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
