Full Job Description

The Light Commercial Plumbing Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for plumbing projects in light commercial settings. This role requires a deep understanding of plumbing systems, construction processes, and industry best practices to ensure that estimates are reflective of market conditions and project complexities.

We are wanting to grow our light commercial business. In the last three years, we have serviced over 700 different commercial customers and have worked with 50 construction customers, with lots of repeat business, so we have a fantastic base from which to build. We are not interested in large construction.

1. Analyze Project Documents: Review architectural drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates.

2. Site Visits: Conduct site visits to assess conditions and identify potential project risks. This should be done on any remodel jobs with an estimated value of over $100,000.

3. Material Costing: Calculate the cost of materials, equipment, and labor required for projects.

4. Vendor Coordination: Obtain and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for material, rental equipment and gas piping or other sub quotes.

5. Time Estimation: Estimate the duration of each project phase and overall project completion.

6. Risk Assessment: Identify and quantify project risks and their potential cost impact.

7. Value Engineering: Suggest cost-saving methods and materials when requested by the general contractor or owner.

8. Bid Preparation: Prepare formal proposal using our Estimating Template proposal. Provide detailed breakdowns of what is included, a fixture schedule and what is excluded in our estimated costs.

9. Client Interaction: Work with marketing team/project manager to assure follow up on every bid by someone at Alvarez.

10. Contract Review: Assist in the review of contracts, ensuring that the scope of work is clearly defined.

11. Project Handoff: Collaborate with the project manager to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to execution.

12. Team Collaboration: Work closely with team members, such as the project coordinator, project manager, superintendent, and job foreman to share all information you considered when estimating the job.

13. Change Order Management: Prepare cost estimates for change orders and negotiate them with clients.

14. Software Utilization: Use FastPipe estimating software to improve accuracy and efficiency.

15. Quality Assurance: Ensure that estimates comply with company standards and client requirements.

16. Training and Development: Mentor (future) estimators and provide training on our best practices in estimating.
