Position: Suicide Prevention Services Manager

Location: Salinas, CA

Job type: Full-time

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

Join a team that’s changing the landscape of mental health support across the Central Coast. Family Service Agency of the Central Coast (FSA) has long served as a regional leader in suicide prevention, crisis intervention, and community wellness. Our Suicide Prevention Services program provides education, outreach, training, crisis intervention, and postvention support for individuals, families, schools, and community partners impacted by suicide.

As suicide prevention efforts expand across Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito Counties, we are seeking a forward-thinking leader to guide the strategic vision, operational excellence, and continued growth of these critical services. This program plays a foundational role in reducing suicide risk, strengthening community resilience, and ensuring every person has access to help, hope, and connection.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Suicide Prevention Services Manager provides overall leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for FSA’s suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention programs across the tri-county region. This position manages program operations, staff and volunteer supervision, contract grants compliance, community partnerships, and data reporting.

The Manager ensures that services align with national best practices, state and county requirements, and culturally responsive care standards. This position works closely with schools, behavioral health agencies, community organizations, and crisis response partners to implement high-impact prevention strategies and community support systems.

The Manager directly supervises program coordinators, educators, and prevention specialists, and plays a key role in long-term planning, funding sustainability, and program evaluation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide leadership and strategic guidance for suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention services across Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Benito Counties.
Oversee recruitment, training, and supervision of program staff and volunteers, promoting a trauma-informed, collaborative, and growth-oriented work culture.
Develop and evaluate program goals, curricula, performance measures, and outcome reporting to ensure high-quality, evidence-based services.
Maintain strong partnerships with county behavioral health departments, school districts, universities, and community organizations.
Lead suicide prevention trainings, including ASIST, safeTALK, QPR, and other evidence-based models (or ensure staff are trained/certified to deliver them).
Oversee community outreach initiatives, public education campaigns, school-based programming, and support groups for loss survivors.
Implement and update policies, procedures, and program protocols aligned with national suicide prevention standards.
Ensure timely, accurate reporting of data, documentation, service metrics, and funding compliance.
Serve as the primary agency representative in regional, statewide, and national suicide prevention networks and coalitions.
Provide leadership and coordination during critical incidents, community losses, or postvention responses.
Manage program budgets, contracts, invoicing, and grant deliverables.
Support funding sustainability through partnerships, grant development, and program expansion opportunities.
Facilitate regular program meetings to ensure communication, alignment, and accountability.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong knowledge of suicide prevention frameworks, crisis intervention, and behavioral health systems.
Experience designing, implementing, or managing public health or mental health prevention programs.
Skilled supervisor with experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
Demonstrated ability to build and sustain partnerships with schools, government agencies, and community organizations.
Excellent communication, training, and public speaking skills.
Experience with program evaluation, data reporting, and quality improvement.
Understanding of trauma-informed care, cultural humility, and responsive service delivery.
Ability to work collaboratively, think strategically, and lead with compassion and integrity.
Proficiency with data systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation.

Job Type:

Full-time, 40 hours/week, flexible schedule with occasional evenings/weekends
