Hartnell College Foundation – Associate Director of Philanthropy

Exempt Position

Are you a relationship-driven fundraising professional who wants to see your

work translate directly into scholarships, opportunity, and life-changing

outcomes for students? Hartnell College Foundation — one of the top five

community college foundations in California and among the top 25 in the

nation — is seeking an Associate Director of Philanthropy to help lead the

next chapter of philanthropic support for Hartnell College.

Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy, the Associate Director of

Philanthropy will play a lead role in donor engagement, special events,

fundraising, and alumni relations, bringing sound judgment and independent

initiative to every stage of the gift cycle. Full responsibilities are outlined

below.

Organization Overview

The Hartnell College Foundation was incorporated in December

1979. During the early years, the Foundation focused its efforts primarily on

scholarships. In recent years, the Foundation has grown to include

comprehensive fundraising for scholarships, capital improvements, academic

and student support programs, and endowments. The Foundation also serves

as the backbone institution for the Bright Futures Education Partnership for

Monterey County, administers a K-12 STEAM program reaching more than

10,000 youth per year, and is the managing partner of One Main Street. The

Foundation currently manages over $57.6 million in assets. The Foundation’s

mission is to cultivate resources to champion student success. Our vision is to

inspire philanthropy and partnerships that transform the lives of our students

and strengthen our communities. A broad base of community support

provides the infrastructure to continue worthwhile programs. The

Foundation’s impact on student success and its ability to attract community

support have been widely recognized.

The Foundation provides competitive benefits, including health, dental and

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Philanthropy, the Associate

Director of Philanthropy provides expertise and hands-on execution across the

Foundation’s fundraising activities — including donor identification, cultivation,

solicitation, and stewardship; foundation and corporate relations, including

grant writing; special events; annual appeals; the scholarship program; and

alumni engagement. The role calls for sound, independent judgment and the

initiative to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced philanthropy office.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

● Partner with the Director of Philanthropy on strategic planning for

the Foundation’s Philanthropy Division.

● Collaborate with senior leadership to grow philanthropic support

from individual donors, alumni, foundations, and corporations.

● Work with the philanthropy team to execute successful

fundraising campaigns and secure major gifts in support of

student success.

● Provide staffing support and facilitation for alumni and other

program-specific events, working with committees, councils, staff,

and volunteers to develop and implement strategies that increase

philanthropic support.

● Develop and execute an alumni engagement strategy in

partnership with alumni and faculty, maintaining communications

that build long-term relationships.

● Implement the Foundation’s scholarship program, including donor

cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, event planning, and

coordination with the Hartnell College Office of Financial Aid.

● Execute the Foundation’s Annual Giving Program and support

foundation and corporate relations, including grant writing.

● Support advancement operations at all levels, including maintaining

accurate donor records and database information.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

● Demonstrated record of success in generating significant commitments

from corporations, foundations, and individuals

● Knowledge of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship

strategies and techniques

● Demonstrated ability in grant proposal writing

● Experience in planning and managing special events and fundraising

activities

● Demonstrated ability to write well and communicate effectively

● Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills

● Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability

to take primary responsibility for a diverse number of projects and

complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision

● Familiarity with advancement operations, including database and

standard policies

● Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge is a plus

● Ability to perform duties with attention to detail and accuracy

● Maintain a positive, productive attitude at all times

● Exercise good judgment, discretion and maintain confidentiality

● Maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances

● Strong computer skills and experience with Google Workspace

Other

● Must be able to meet routine office physical demands including climbing

stairs, carrying up to 20-pound objects, and possessing the dexterity

and vision to operate office computers and equipment.

● Must possess a valid driver’s license and provide proof of auto

insurance.

● Ability to work evenings and weekends, and open to travel opportunities

● Primarily based on-site at the Hartnell College campus in Salinas,

California.

Education and Experience

● Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible

development and project management experience

● Master’s degree preferred

● Additional years of experience may be substituted for academic degrees

Salary Range: $98,000 - $130,000 annually
