Full Job Description

Job Summary
Laney's is seeking an experienced and dependable Underground Excavator Operator to join our growing team. This position is responsible for operating excavating equipment and assisting crews with the installation, repair, and replacement of underground sewer and water lines. The ideal candidate will have experience working around underground utilities, reading grade stakes, and maintaining a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

Operate excavators and other heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
Excavate for sewer and water line installations, repairs, and replacements.
Work closely with pipe crews to install underground utilities.
Understand and maintain proper grade and elevation requirements.
Locate and work around existing underground utilities.
Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures.
Assist with trenching, backfilling, and site restoration as needed.
Maintain a clean and organized work site.

Experience

Minimum 2 years of excavator operating experience required.
Experience with underground utility construction, sewer, and water services.
Ability to read grade stakes, blueprints, and utility locates.
Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred.
Knowledge of trench safety and excavation regulations.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills

Experience installing residential and commercial water and sewer services.
Familiarity with laser grading systems.
Experience working with PVC, HDPE, ductile iron, and concrete pipe.
Ability to assist with equipment transportation and jobsite setup.
