Position Summary
NPSG Built is looking for someone to be an integral part an amazing team with opportunity for professional growth and advancement. The Traveling Superintendent provides on-site leadership for commercial construction projects across multiple geographic markets, overseeing all field activities from mobilization through closeout. This individual is responsible for planning and coordinating subcontractor work, driving schedule performance, maintaining jobsite safety and quality, and ensuring professional communication with clients, design teams, and internal stakeholders. The Traveling Superintendent plays a critical role in delivering successful projects and must be adaptable, organized, and committed to upholding the company’s standards in every location. While the role requires regular presence on active jobsites, the primary purpose of this position is planning, supervision, coordination, and management of construction operations rather than performance of manual trade labor.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership and Project Execution
▪ Lead all day-to-day field operations on assigned construction projects.
▪ Manage the project site from mobilization through final completion and closeout.
▪ Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and other site personnel.
▪ Maintain a strong field presence and proactively identify and solve problems before they impact cost, schedule, or quality.
▪ Ensure the work is installed in accordance with plans, specifications, approved submittals, and applicable codes and regulations.
▪ Drive accountability among trades for manpower, sequencing, quality, safety, and production. Supervise and coordinate the activities of construction teams, subcontractors, and vendors, ensuring efficient and effective execution of project plans.
Scheduling and Coordination
▪ Develop and manage short-interval schedules and look-ahead plans in coordination with the Project Manager.
▪ Sequence work effectively to maintain progress and avoid conflicts between trades.
▪ Conduct regular subcontractor coordination meetings and communicate upcoming milestones and constraints.
▪ Monitor site productivity and adjust field plans as needed to keep the project on schedule.
▪ Identify long-lead, access, inspection, utility, and turnover issues early and escalate them appropriately. Safety Management
▪ Promote and enforce a strong culture of safety on every project.
▪ Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, company safety policies, and project-specific safety requirements.
▪ Conduct regular site safety meetings, audits, and daily observations. ▪ Correct unsafe conditions and behaviors immediately.
▪ Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure required safety documentation, training, and site compliance are maintained.
Quality Control
▪ Oversee workmanship and installation quality throughout the life of the project.
▪ Perform regular inspections of ongoing work and ensure deficiencies are corrected promptly.
▪ Maintain punch lists and manage completion of incomplete or deficient work.
▪ Verify that work is ready for owner, design team, AHJ, and third-party inspections.
▪ Support project turnover by helping ensure completion of closeout items, startup activities, and final quality expectations.
Communication and Documentation
▪ Serve as the primary on-site representative of the company.
▪ Maintain professional communication with owners, tenants, architects, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.
▪ Partner closely with the Project Manager to communicate field conditions, schedule impacts, change issues, and risk items.
▪ Maintain accurate daily reports documenting manpower, progress, weather, deliveries, visitors, inspections, incidents, and major activities.
▪ Assist with documentation of field changes, RFIs, unforeseen conditions, and delay events.
Site Logistics and Jobsite Management
▪ Plan and manage site logistics, access, material storage, temporary facilities, and deliveries.
▪ Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite.
▪ Oversee equipment use, temporary protection, signage, and security measures.
▪ Coordinate temporary utilities, inspections, shutdowns, and special site access needs as required.
Project Closeout
▪ Lead punch list completion and final field turnover efforts.
▪ Coordinate startup, testing, training, and commissioning activities as applicable.
▪ Ensure final inspections are completed and deficiencies are resolved.
▪ Support collection of field closeout documents including as-builts, attic stock, warranties, O&M manuals, and final signage or labeling requirements.
Qualifications
▪ Minimum 5-10 years of experience in commercial construction field supervision, with experience as a Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
▪ Experience managing commercial projects such as light industrial, warehouse/distribution, tenant improvements, office, retail, restaurant, sitework, or similar projects.
▪ Willingness and ability to travel regularly and stay near out-of-town project sites for extended periods as needed.
▪ Strong understanding of commercial construction means, methods, sequencing, and field coordination.
▪ Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, schedules, and shop drawings.
▪ Working knowledge of safety regulations, building codes, and inspection processes.
▪ Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
▪ Proficiency with construction technology such as Procore, Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and basic scheduling/document tools preferred.
▪ OSHA 30 preferred.
▪ Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required. Preferred Experience ▪ Experience working for a commercial general contractor.
▪ Experience on occupied renovation projects and active operational sites.
▪ Experience with travel-based projects in multiple states or regions.
▪ Ability to work effectively with limited direct office support while maintaining strong communication with the home office.

Physical & Field Requirements
This position requires regular, sustained presence on active commercial construction jobsites. The Traveling Superintendent must be capable of walking project sites daily for extended periods and navigating uneven terrain, active work zones, and temporary access conditions. Duties may require crawling, climbing ladders or scaffolding, reaching with hands and arms, bending, kneeling, crouching, and standing for long periods of time. The role involves accessing confined spaces and elevated work areas, including rooftops, multi-level structures, and areas involving significant height exposures while safely performing supervisory and inspection tasks. The ability to lift, carry, and hold materials or tools weighing up to 50 pounds is required on an occasional basis. Work is performed primarily in outdoor construction environments and may involve exposure to heat, cold, humidity, rain, dust, and other site-specific conditions. The Traveling Superintendent must be able to hear and communicate effectively in active jobsite settings and operate safely around heavy equipment, ongoing construction activities, and multiple trades. Regular travel, including overnight stays near project sites, is an essential function of this role.
Travel Requirements
▪ Frequent travel is required for this position.
▪ Travel includes out-of-town assignments, extended project stays, and periodic weekend travel depending on project location and schedule demands.
▪ Candidate must be comfortable working on projects across the Southeast and other assigned regions as business needs require.
Work Environment
This position is primarily based on active construction jobsites and requires a hands-on, field first approach. The Traveling Superintendent must be comfortable working independently in the field while staying closely aligned with the Project Manager and company leadership.
