Full Job Description

Goshen College is a Christian liberal arts institution that prepares students to thrive in life, leadership and service. Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Students, the Student Activities Coordinator (SAC) is responsible for providing direction and oversight of campus-wide programming on Goshen College’s campus that promotes an engaged, inclusive, and healthy community. The SAC will provide supervision to a team of student leaders (Campus Activities Council) for planning events and will partner with other campus departments. The SAC will develop effective leadership training for student staff and contribute to the development of a positive campus spirit and identity. The SAC will work to build a thriving culture among Goshen College’s various student clubs and organizations, including providing oversight to the campus’ affinity groups. The SAC will participate in the on-call Resident Director rotation to provide support and intervention for incidents of student crisis and misconduct.

This role involves regular work during evenings and weekends. The SAC will be provided with an on-campus apartment and 65-block meal plan. This is a 10-month position running August through May with an annual wage of $36,605.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal with diverse groups
Ability to plan innovative activities and to creatively market and promote activities and positions
Ability to work nights, and weekends; balance many tasks simultaneously and work well both independently and cooperatively with others
Ability to respond to crisis management situations and mental health crises that require engagement with mental health providers
Ability to work effectively under pressure
Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to write and speak clearly
Professional demeanor and maturity

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience with recreational administration, working with young adults, organizing student activities, or event planning
Culturally competent
Ability to work with both campus and external communities
Exceptional interpersonal skills
Highly motivated and self-directed

Essential Functions:

Student Activities -40%

Plans and oversees major Student Life activities throughout the course of the academic year
Partners and assists Residence Life, Campus Ministries, student clubs, Athletics, and Intramural Sports with event management
Consults and works with the Events Office to ensure Student Life programming aligns with the campus events calendar
Consults with AVI Fresh food service for catering major events on campus
Creates marketing for student activities to encourage a wide variety of students to attend
Consults with ITS on technical equipment and student help for campus events
Manages bookings for outside entertainment brought to campus for events (i.e. musicians, DJs, comedians, etc.)

Student Leadership Development – 10%

Supervises 4-8 student leaders (Campus Activities Council) in planning major campus-wide social events
Meets weekly with the student leader team to plan events and engage in leadership formation activities
Meet individually with student leaders, as needed, to provide feedback and guidance
Participates as a member of the Student Life leadership hiring working group

Student Clubs and Organizations – 30%

Works with Student Senate to ensure all student clubs and organizations adhere to relevant campus policies
Provides guidance for students leading clubs and organizations
Oversees the campus affinity groups
Ensures advisors for affinity groups understand their role and responsibilities
Oversee timecards for student leaders of affinity groups

Administrative Responsibilities – 10%

Administers student activities budget for student payroll, event supplies, performers, and marketing material
Effectively utilizes professional standards (i.e. CAS Standards) to ensure alignment of the Campus Activities Council with best practices in the field
Conducts an annual review and update of CAC’s guiding documents (position handbooks, event planning guides, etc.)
Participates in campus committees as assigned by the Associate Dean of Students

Student Care and Crisis – 10%

Participates in the on-call Resident Director (OCRD) rotation
Participates in weekly OCRD wrap-up meetings
