ABOUT STAND UP PLACER

Stand Up Placer provides comprehensive services to Placer County survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and their non-offending family members. Our mission is: Saving Lives by Empowering Survivors and Educating Communities to Stand Up to Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Human Trafficking.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Family Advocate partners with families involved in the child welfare system, including children and caregivers impacted by abuse or neglect, to promote child safety, healing, and family stability. This role provides trauma-informed advocacy, case management, and resource coordination, supporting both caregivers and victims of child abuse. The Family Advocate works collaboratively with Child Protective Services (CPS), courts, and community providers to strengthen protective factors and support safe, stable outcomes for children. The Family Advocate also supports child abuse prevention efforts through parent education, early intervention, and connecting families to community-based services that reduce risk factors and promote healthy family functioning. This is a mandated reporter position.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Family Engagement, Advocacy & Victim Support

Build trusting, culturally responsive relationships with families and children impacted by CPS involvement, including victims of abuse and neglect.
Provide trauma-informed support to children and caregivers, recognizing the emotional and psychological impact of abuse.
Ensure the safety, rights, and well-being of child victims are prioritized in all interactions and service planning.
Help children and caregivers understand the CPS process in a developmentally appropriate and supportive way.
Advocate for services that address trauma, mental health, and recovery needs of abuse victims.

Assessment & Case Planning

Conduct strengths-based, trauma-informed assessments that consider risk, safety, and protective factors.
Collaborate with families, CPS, and service providers to develop individualized service plans that address safety concerns and healing from abuse.
Monitor progress and adjust plans as needed to ensure child safety and family stability.

Systems Navigation & Advocacy

Serve as an advocate for families and child victims within CPS, legal, medical, and educational systems.
Accompany families and children to court hearings, forensic interviews, medical exams, and other key appointments when appropriate.
Support child and family participation in case planning, ensuring their voices are heard in decisions affecting them.

Resource Coordination

Connect families and child victims to critical services, including:
Trauma-focused mental health care
Victim advocacy programs
Medical and forensic services
Domestic violence and substance use services
Housing, education, and economic supports
Follow up to ensure services are accessible, coordinated, and effective.

Crisis Intervention & Safety Planning

Respond to crisis situations involving family conflict, abuse disclosures, or safety risks.
Support immediate and ongoing safety planning for children and non-offending caregivers.
Recognize and respond appropriately to signs of abuse, re-traumatization, or escalating risk.

Case Management & Documentation

Maintain timely, accurate documentation of case activities, safety concerns, and outcomes.

· Complete all necessary documentation for client case files, and enter all data, and upload copies of paper documents into our encrypted client database within 24-hours.

Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including child advocacy centers, CPS case reviews, and court processes.
Adhere to confidentiality, mandated reporting laws, and agency policies.

Other Responsibilities

· Participate in bi-weekly supervision.

· Participate in job-related and continuing education as required.

· Work evenings and/or weekends as needed.

· Maintain daily timekeeping records in the agency portal.

· Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

· Experience working with vulnerable families, preferably in child welfare, CPS, or victim services.

· Knowledge of child abuse dynamics, trauma-informed care, and child development.

· Strong advocacy, crisis intervention, and communication skills.

· Ability to work with children and families experiencing trauma in a compassionate and professional manner.

· Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills.

· Ability to maintain strong professional boundaries.

· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

· Experience working with client database entry, preferably Apricot Solutions or HMIS preferred.

· Completion of 70-hour state-certified Crisis Intervention Training (post-hire requirement).

· Reliable transportation, valid California Driver’s License and proof of insurance

· Fingerprint clearance required.

· Bilingual Spanish preferred.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
