The Town of Timnath Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Sergeant.
The Police Sergeant is a key leadership position responsible for supervising patrol operations, overseeing investigations, supporting crime prevention initiatives, ensuring officer accountability, and fostering positive community relationships. This position serves as a direct link between command staff and frontline personnel while providing leadership, mentorship, and operational oversight.
Position Summary
The Police Sergeant performs supervisory, operational, and administrative law enforcement duties overseeing patrol operations, patrol-related investigations, crime prevention, traffic and school safety, and community relations. This role ensures compliance with Department and Town policies, federal and state laws, provides guidance and direct supervision to officers, and responds to emergencies while maintaining public safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervising and managing daily patrol operations, personnel, and resource allocation.
- Serving as incident commander during major or large-scale incidents.
- Providing direct supervision, mentorship, coaching, and guidance to officers.
- Managing personnel scheduling, staffing adjustments, and operational readiness.
- Implementing department policies, procedures, and strategic initiatives.
- Monitoring patrol activities and investigative efforts to ensure operational effectiveness.
- Reviewing and approving reports, records, case filings, and BlueTeam reports.
- Conducting performance evaluations and supporting employee development.
- Managing internal and public complaints in accordance with department standards.
- Actively participating in community policing efforts and relationship building.
- Promoting officer wellness and resilience through support and leadership initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications
Current Timnath Police Department Employees
- Must possess a minimum of three (3) years of sworn law enforcement experience.
External Candidates
- Must possess a minimum of four (4) years of experience as a fully commissioned police officer.
- Supervisory experience is preferred.
Education and Certifications
- Associate degree or higher preferred.
- Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license by date of hire and maintain a safe driving record.
- Must currently possess a Colorado P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate or equivalent.
- Out of State candidates must obtain Colorado P.O.S.T. certification within six (6) months of hire.
Disqualifying Factors
Applicants must satisfy all Town of Timnath and Colorado P.O.S.T. eligibility requirements. Candidates who do not meet these standards may be disqualified from further consideration.
Applicants must have NO:
- Felony convictions.
- Felony committed within the last three (3) years, whether arrested and charged or not.
- Conviction, plea of no contest, deferred judgment, or deferred sentence for a felony offense.
- Misdemeanor conviction within the past three (3) years.
- Certain misdemeanor offenses that would affect Colorado P.O.S.T. certification eligibility.
- Domestic violence convictions.
- Illicit drug use within the past three (3) years, including but not limited to LSD, heroin, cocaine, PCP, psilocybin mushrooms, amphetamines, inhalants, steroids, and similar substances.
- Use of any illegal drug, on or off duty, while employed as a law enforcement officer.
- Refusal to submit to a drug screening as part of the selection process.
