Full Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Program Leadership and Operations - overseeing daily operation of school-age after-school and summer camp programs, to include developing and implementing age-appropriate curriculum and activities and ensuring that all program space is safe, clean, organized and well-maintained.
2. Compliance and Documentation - ensuring that all childcare licensing requirements, health & safety standards, nutritional requirements, attendance records and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) records are met, properly reported and up to date.
3. Budget and Resource Management – assisting Youth Development Director in developing and managing the school-age program budget, including monitoring program expenses and maintaining adequate supplies, equipment and program materials
4. Staff Development and Support – providing leadership, coaching and professional development opportunities for school-age program staff, scheduling staff and providing coverage in classrooms when needed while fostering a positive team environment focused on excellent service and child development best practices.
5. Community Engagement & Recruitment – representing the YMCA professionally within the community to promote childcare programs including participating in open houses, community events and recruitment initiatives to attract program participants and staff.
6. Branch Support – attending branch leadership meetings, contributing to branch functions through event planning, and attending and supporting special programs as needed, and providing staff coverage and operational support as requested.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises all staff in the school-age youth development programs. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Recreation, Education, or a related field preferred. Experience in school-age childcare, youth development, camp programming, or related field preferred. Supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Knowledge of state childcare licensing regulations and CACFP requirements preferred.
2. Strong oral and written communication skills required.
3. Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail. Strong organizational, leadership and problem-solving skills required.
4. Must be sufficiently mobile to supervise children and staff indoors and outdoors, and participate in recreational activities with the children in the program. Must be able to occasionally lift, drag or pull up to 150 pounds as needed for child safety.
5. Specific vision requirements distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
6. This position works in a childcare and youth program setting, including classrooms, outdoor recreation areas, community events, and branch facilities. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support meetings, events, recruitment activities, and program operations.
7. Certifications – CPR/AED and First Aid certification is required upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment. Level III childcare certification strongly preferred. Basic School Age Care (BSAC) preferred prior to hire, but required within 30 days of hire.
8. The North Carolina Child Care Law (General Statute 110-90.2) requires a DCDEE childcare criminal background check (CBC) be conducted and a determination of fitness be made on all persons who work or provide childcare in a licensed or regulated childcare facility prior to serving children. The Qualifying Letter must be kept on file for each affected employee.

The Assistant Youth Development Director for School Age Programs provides leadership, oversight, and continuous quality improvement for YMCA school-age childcare programs, including after-school, school-age initiative, and summer day camp programs. The position ensures compliance with NC Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) regulations, supports quality enhancement initiatives, oversees program assessment practices, develops staff, fosters family engagement, and promotes positive youth development outcomes. The position works collaboratively with community partners, school personnel, families, and YMCA leadership to ensure programs operate at the highest standards of safety, quality, and impact. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for carrying out our promise to strengthen the foundations of community with focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility while upholding our values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
