We are looking for an experienced Business Manager to support the financial and administrative operations of a school district located in Middlesex, CT county. The quaint CT school district is reputable and provides great benefits to its employees. This position plays a central role in maintaining sound fiscal practices, overseeing daily business functions, and ensuring compliance across school, food service, and student transportation programs. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to leadership and the board.

Responsibilities :

Direct the district’s business office activities, ensuring efficient coordination of daily administrative and operational functions.
Manage accounting processes including month-end close activities, ledger balancing, and accurate maintenance of financial records.
Prepare budgets, monitor spending trends, and develop financial forecasts to support district planning and decision-making.
Produce monthly financial reports and present key updates, analyses, and recommendations to the board and district leadership.
Oversee purchasing practices and help maintain appropriate controls for expenditures, approvals, and vendor-related activity.
Administer grant-related financial tracking and reporting to help ensure timely submissions and compliance with funding requirements.
Establish, review, and strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures to promote accountability and regulatory adherence.
Support the financial oversight of school operations, food service programs, and student transportation-related expenditures.
Partner with district stakeholders on business and administrative matters, with additional involvement in human resources functions when needed.

Minimum requirements are detailed below.

The base salary range is $115,000 - $127,000 and there are very good benefits including a large portion of health insurance premiums paid to the school district, 15 vacation days, 15 sick days, a generous 403 B match and a laptop and cell phone.

Minimum requirements:

School Business Administrator certification issued by the Connecticut Department of Education, or active progress toward obtaining it.
Experience in accounting or finance, preferably within a public school or educational setting.
Demonstrated ability to lead month-end close processes and perform detailed general ledger reconciliations.
Experience preparing monthly financial statements, management reports, and board-ready financial presentations.
Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and expenditure monitoring within a structured organizational environment.
Background overseeing office operations or administrative business functions with strong organizational skills.
Familiarity with public school financial practices, grant reporting, and policy compliance is strongly preferred.
Human resources experience is considered an asset.
