Hit Exchange | Sports Cards & CollectiblesSpringboro, Ohio Area | Full-Time | Primarily Remote
Hit Exchange is a rapidly growing sports card buying and distribution company purchasing and moving millions of dollars of inventory each year.
We are looking for a highly capable, tech-savvy person to work directly alongside one of our owners and help build, improve, and eventually take ownership of many of the technology and operational systems that run our business.
This is a unique opportunity for someone early in their career who has developed advanced skills with AI, technology, automation, and data and wants the opportunity to apply those skills inside a fast-growing business.
You may be a recent college graduate, have a few years of professional experience, or have developed many of these skills independently.
We care much more about what you can actually build, learn, and figure out than how many years of experience you have.
The Role
Initially, you’ll work closely with one of our owners and learn the systems, processes, relationships, and decision-making behind Hit Exchange.
A major focus will be helping complete and improve the Hit Exchange operating system that ownership has already started building. You’ll also work across Google Sheets, automation, data, purchasing, inventory, sales, and other areas of the business.
This isn’t a position where you’ll simply be handed a list of administrative tasks.
We want someone who can be shown how something works, understand why we do it that way, and then start thinking about how technology and AI could make it better.
As you learn the business and demonstrate your abilities, the goal is to steadily give you more ownership and responsibility.
What You’ll Work On
Your responsibilities will evolve as you learn the business, but examples include:
- Continuing development of the Hit Exchange operating system
- Building, improving, and deploying internal applications using tools such as Vercel
- Using AI-assisted development tools to build new features and solve problems
- Working with existing application architecture, databases, APIs, authentication, and integrations
- Troubleshooting, testing, and improving existing applications
- Turning business needs and ideas into functional software and workflows
- Building sophisticated Google Sheets systems that manage large amounts of business and inventory data
- Using AI to develop advanced Google Apps Script automations
- Creating complex Google Sheets formulas, queries, scripts, integrations, and automated workflows
- Connecting different software platforms and data sources
- Identifying repetitive processes and figuring out how to automate them
- Using AI for data analysis, research, decision support, communication, and process development
- Improving how we manage purchasing, inventory, sales, reporting, and operations
- Identifying inefficient processes and developing better ways to accomplish them
- Researching and implementing new technology as the business evolves
- Helping ownership manage projects and initiatives across different areas of the company
- Gradually assuming responsibility for systems and processes currently managed directly by ownership
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is naturally very good with technology and is already using AI at a level well beyond basic prompting.
You don’t need 10 years of software development experience.
You do need to be the type of person who can be given a problem, research it, use AI and the tools available to you, and figure out how to solve it.
We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience or strong familiarity with:
- Advanced use of AI tools
- AI-assisted coding and application development
- Vercel or similar modern development platforms
- Building and deploying web applications
- Advanced Google Sheets
- Google Apps Script
- Using AI to create, troubleshoot, and improve complex formulas and scripts
- APIs and software integrations
- Databases and data management
- Workflow automation
- Modern web applications
- Working with large amounts of data
- Learning unfamiliar technology quickly
You do not necessarily need to be a traditional software engineer.
In fact, we’re particularly interested in people who have become highly capable builders because of AI and modern development tools.
Maybe you’ve built an application for yourself.
Maybe you’ve automated something at a previous job that used to take hours.
Maybe you’ve built a Google Sheets system that became critical to how a business operated.
Maybe you’ve connected multiple platforms using APIs.
Maybe you spend your own time experimenting with new AI tools simply because you want to understand what’s possible.
That’s the type of person we’re looking for.
Beyond Technology
Technical ability alone isn’t enough.
This person will work directly with ownership and eventually be trusted with important parts of the business.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is extremely resourceful
- Thinks logically and makes good decisions
- Takes ownership instead of waiting for instructions
- Communicates clearly
- Understands numbers and business
- Pays close attention to details
- Can manage multiple priorities
- Moves quickly without becoming careless
- Is comfortable figuring things out independently
- Can research something unfamiliar and become knowledgeable quickly
- Wants to understand how the entire business works, not just the technology
- Recognizes when something needs to be escalated and when they can simply solve it
- Wants increasing responsibility as they prove themselves
Knowledge of professional sports or the sports card industry is a plus, but not required.
We can teach you the sports card business.
We’re much more interested in finding someone who is naturally curious, technologically advanced, resourceful, and exceptionally good at figuring things out.
Work Location & Travel
This is primarily a remote position, but we are specifically looking for someone located in or near the Springboro, Ohio area.
During the initial training period, you’ll spend more time working in person directly alongside ownership in the Springboro area. The goal is for you to become fluent in our business, systems, processes, and how we make decisions.
As you gain that understanding and become more independent, the position will transition to being primarily remote.
There will still be occasional in-person work in the Springboro area when it makes sense to collaborate directly.
The position will also require periodic travel to our main operation in Branford, Connecticut. Trips will typically be approximately 3–5 nights at a time, allowing you to work directly with our team, understand the operation firsthand, and help implement and improve the systems you’re building.
All required business travel expenses, including airfare, hotel, transportation, and meals, will be paid by Hit Exchange.
The ideal candidate enjoys the flexibility of working remotely but also sees the value in periodically working alongside the people and processes they’re helping support.
Where This Can Go
This is not intended to remain a junior support position forever.
You’ll be working directly with ownership and learning technology, systems, operations, purchasing, sales, business relationships, and how Hit Exchange functions.
As your knowledge and capabilities grow, so will your responsibility.
The long-term goal is to find someone who can eventually take ownership of many of the systems, processes, and responsibilities currently handled directly by ownership and become an important part of the leadership and operation of Hit Exchange.
For someone early in their career who wants to learn quickly, build real things, work directly with an entrepreneur, and be given meaningful responsibility, there is significant room to grow here.
Applying
Along with your resume, please answer the following:
1. What’s the most impressive thing you’ve built using AI?
It doesn’t have to have been for an employer. Tell us what you built, why you built it, what tools you used, and how it worked.
2. How are you currently using AI beyond basic ChatGPT questions?
We want to hear about coding, automation, data analysis, agents, workflows, applications, integrations, or anything else you’ve experimented with.
3. Tell us about your experience with Google Sheets.
What are some of the most advanced formulas, scripts, automations, integrations, or systems you’ve created?
4. Have you built or deployed an application?
If so, tell us what you built and what tools you used. Experience with Vercel is especially relevant.
5. Tell us about something technical you taught yourself simply because you wanted to figure it out.
6. Give us an example of a process you’ve automated or significantly improved using technology or AI.
Please include links to applications, projects, GitHub repositories, screenshots, videos, or anything else you’ve built if available.
Professional experience is valuable, but demonstrated ability, curiosity, and potential matter more to us than years of experience.
