Job Summary
The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant provides both clinical and administrative support in a NARMC outpatient clinic. Under the supervision of licensed medical professionals and within the scope of practice established by Arkansas law, the CCMA assists with patient intake, vital signs, specimen collection, phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, injections and immunizations, electrocardiograms (ECGs/EKGs), minor procedures, patient education, documentation, scheduling, insurance verification, and other clinic operations.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, compassionate, and comfortable balancing multiple responsibilities while maintaining a high standard of patient care and service.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care

Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments while maintaining patient comfort, dignity, and privacy.
- Obtain and accurately document vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, height, and weight.
- Collect, label, process, and prepare laboratory specimens, including urine, blood, and throat specimens.
- Perform phlebotomy and other specimen collection procedures within established competency and scope of practice.
- Perform and assist with point-of-care testing, including glucose testing, urinalysis, and rapid strep testing.
- Administer injections and immunizations according to provider orders, NARMC policies, and applicable Arkansas regulations.
- Assist physicians and other providers with minor office procedures, including wound care, suture removal, and dressing changes.
- Prepare for and perform electrocardiograms (ECGs/EKGs) as directed.
- Assist with patient examinations, treatments, and diagnostic procedures.
- Provide patient education under the direction of licensed clinical staff, including medication instructions, preventive care, and procedure preparation.
- Recognize and communicate changes in patient condition or abnormal findings to the appropriate nurse or provider.
- Maintain clean, organized examination rooms and properly clean, disinfect, and sterilize reusable equipment according to policy.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures and comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements.
- Provide respectful, culturally sensitive care to patients from diverse backgrounds.
Administrative and Clinic Operations

Greet patients and provide professional, courteous customer service throughout the patient visit.
- Verify patient demographics, insurance information, and eligibility.
- Complete patient check-in and check-out processes accurately and efficiently.
- Schedule and confirm appointments, follow-up visits, and other services.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Assist with billing-related activities, including coding support and collection of patient co-pays.
- Assist with insurance verification and prior authorization processes.
- Respond professionally to patient and family questions by phone, electronically, and in person.
- Monitor medical and administrative supplies and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Order and restock supplies as needed to support daily clinic operations.
- Protect patient confidentiality and comply with NARMC privacy and security policies.
- Collaborate effectively with providers, nurses, front-office staff, and other healthcare team members.
- Maintain reliable attendance and effectively prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinic environment.
- Participate in annual training, continuing education, competency assessments, and required professional development.
- Maintain required certifications and credentials.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Required
Education

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certification
-
Current Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or another recognized certifying organization.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Experience
-
Clinic office experience or related education/training.
- Experience with general office functions and professional written and verbal communication.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of medical terminology and basic clinical procedures.
- Understanding of HIPAA, OSHA, infection prevention, and patient privacy requirements.
- Ability to accurately obtain vital signs and perform routine clinical procedures.
- Ability to collect and process laboratory specimens and perform point-of-care testing.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, nurses, and other healthcare team members.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.
Preferred

One or more years of experience working in a clinical or outpatient healthcare setting.
- Completion of an accredited medical assistant training program.
- Additional training or certification in phlebotomy.
- Additional training or certification as an EKG/ECG technician.
- Experience with electronic medical records, medical office scheduling, insurance verification, prior authorizations, or medical billing.
- Experience performing injections, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and other clinical procedures.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and professional development.
