GENERAL SUMMARY:
Assists in the performance of various invasive cardiology or interventional radiology procedures under the immediate supervision of a qualified physician. Assists in the performance of various invasive cardiac, peripheral vascular or interventional radiology diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Sustains a high level of patient care by communication with the patients, families, physicians, and co-workers to address the physical, general, and psychosocial needs of the patient. Functions under the direction and immediate supervision of the cardiologist/radiologist performing the procedure.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

2. *Assists cardiologists and procedural physicians during invasive cardiovascular and interventional radiology procedures. Procedures may involve fluoroscopy operated by the physician or a licensed Medical Radiographer.
3. *Practices radiation and laser safety for patients, staff, and self.
4. *Uses sterile technique as required.
5. *Assists with patient positioning and preparation as directed by the physician to facilitate safe and effective procedure performance. Records, analyzes, and documents clinical patient information; recognizes and communicates arrhythmias; monitors arterial and/or venous pressure lines.
6. *Functions in the first scrub role by preparing, organizing, and anticipating needed instruments, supplies, and equipment for safe patient care for interventional radiology and invasive cardiology procedures.
7. Operates non-radiographic clinical support systems associated with cardiovascular procedures, including hemodynamic monitoring systems, EMR, scheduling platforms, and documentation tools. Does not independently activate fluoroscopy or select X-ray exposure factors.
8. *Utilizes hospital and department computer systems, files, and PACS to review patient history and to provide accurate documentation of studies to include patient clinical information.
9. *Provides patient care and procedural support to individuals of all ages while maintaining confidentiality and dignity.
10. *Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families and other hospital staff to ensure quality patient care; shares pertinent information regarding patient conditions with physicians, nurses and other professional staff as needed for patient care.
11. *Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
12. Provides information to patients and families to reduce anxiety and convey an attitude of acceptance, sensitivity, and caring.
13. *Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as required. Initiates problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with peers.
14. *Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies supervisor of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.
15. *Keeps work area properly supplied.
16. Assists with departmental orientation and student clinical education as directed.
17. *Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
18. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
19. Participates in meetings, committees, and department projects as assigned.
20. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patient’s growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.
2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
3. Knowledge of patient positioning and radiation safety principles applicable to working in a fluoroscopy-guided procedural environment.
4. Knowledge of applicable healthcare regulations and hospital policies related to invasive cardiovascular and interventional radiology procedures
5. Knowledge of anatomy and pathophysiology related to interventional radiology and invasive cardiology procedures.
6. Knowledge of techniques and supplies required for interventional procedures.
7. Knowledge of radiologic and cardiovascular equipment, image capture devices, PACS, and other related systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required to have at least one (1) of the following:
- Associates degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Surgical Technology or allied health field of study including Paramedic Medicine.
o Paramedic Medicine and uncertified Surgical Technology professionals required to obtain Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification within 18 months of start date.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and valid state license to practice respiratory therapy.
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification.
o New graduates are eligible for hire and must obtain certification within 6 months of hire date.
- Graduate from a school of radiologic technology with current certification or eligibility for certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and valid state medical radiographer license within 90 days of start date. Cardiovascular or Vascular Interventional certification preferred.
- Prior experience in hemodynamic monitoring skills and ECG interpretation skills recognition of cardiac arrhythmias preferred.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals), and the Military Training Network.
