Summary
New Venture Research Corporation (NVRC) is a leading provider of innovative technology solutions supporting critical defense programs.
The Systems Administrator is a mid-level technical professional responsible for the installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of the servers, operating systems, and virtualization infrastructure supporting a Department of Defense (DoD) virtual desktop environment serving up to 275 users at a fixed facility in the Honolulu, HI area. Working under the direction of the IT Site Lead, the Systems Administrator ensures system availability, performance, and security in compliance with applicable DoD policies, STIGs, and Authorization to Operate (ATO) requirements.
Key Responsibilities
System Operations & Administration
Install, configure, and maintain Windows and/or Linux server operating systems supporting the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environment.
Administer and maintain virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, ESXi, Horizon) including provisioning, cloning, patching, and lifecycle management of virtual machines.
Monitor system performance, availability, and resource utilization; identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and capacity issues.
Manage user accounts, groups, and access permissions in Active Directory and related identity management systems.
Administer DNS, DHCP, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), and other core infrastructure services.
Perform system backups and verify integrity of backup data; test and document restoration procedures.
Coordinate and execute scheduled maintenance windows, patching cycles, and system updates in coordination with the IT Site Lead and OIC.
Cybersecurity & Compliance
Apply and maintain Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) across all administered systems in accordance with ATO requirements.
Support the system's Risk Management Framework (RMF) process including participation in continuous monitoring activities.
Conduct routine vulnerability scans using approved tools (e.g., ACAS/Nessus); document findings and implement remediation actions.
Ensure systems comply with DoD Information Assurance policies, DISA guidelines, and applicable cybersecurity directives.
Support audit log collection, review, and retention in accordance with DoD policies and system ATO conditions.
Assist the Cybersecurity Engineer with Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M) tracking and remediation.
Documentation & Configuration Management
Maintain accurate and current system documentation including as-built configurations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and system diagrams.
Support the Configuration Management Specialist in tracking and recording changes to system baselines.
Participate in change control processes; document and submit change requests in accordance with established procedures.
Coordination & Support
Provide Tier 2/3 escalation support for helpdesk tickets related to server, VDI, and account management issues.
Coordinate with Network Administrators, Engineers, and other team members to troubleshoot and resolve cross-functional issues.
Support exercises and real-world operations that may require extended or surge hours outside normal operating windows (0600–1800 local)
Required Minimum Qualifications
Proficiency with Windows Server administration, Active Directory, and Group Policy management.
Experience with virtualization platforms, preferably VMware vSphere/ESXi/Horizon.
Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity requirements including STIG implementation, RMF, and ACAS scanning.
DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II compliance required — CompTIA Security+ CE (or equivalent) minimum.
Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work effectively in a dynamic operational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or equivalent virtualization certification.
Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator or Windows Server hybrid administrator credentials.
Experience with DISA STIG Viewer, SCAP Compliance Checker, and ACAS/Nessus.
Familiarity with DoD IA tools including eMASS.
Experience supporting operational military environments including exercises or real-world operations.
CompTIA Server+ or equivalent infrastructure certification.
Required Education and Length of Experience
Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related field
A High School Diploma with an additional 2 years of experience above the minimum requirement (5+ years of experience in total) plus at least one relevant technical certification (Security Plus, Network Plus, CISSP, CCNA, CCNP, or other equivalent technical certification) may be substituted for consideration.
3+ years of experience in systems administration in a DoD or government IT environment
Travel Requirements
Travel up to 25% may be required.
Normal operating hours are 0600–1800 local time. Extended or surge hours may be required in support of exercises or real-world operations. Schedule coordination is managed by the IT Site Lead.
This role will begin in July 2026. Candidates must be local to the site ready to begin work at that time.
U.S. Citizenship Requirements
Due to our contracts with the U.S. federal government and the requirement for a security clearance for this role, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.
Clearance Type Required
Candidates must be able to maintain an active Top Secret with SCI eligibility security clearance (must be in-scope and adjudicated).
